What do most of you that hunt Europe frequently wear for Alpine hunts?

I've already selected Kenetrek boots, high quality socks and base layers, both synthetic and wool that I can switch depending on daily temperatures, but want a traditional jacket and pants. Partially as a nod to tradition, but also to compare against modern clothing.

Just bough Cabela's Instinct and Kuiu Attack pants, but if others have had luck with more old fashioned European brand pants, shirts and light jackets, I'd like to try them this fall.

What time of year are you hunting? That will make a big difference.

I’m tagging along on this thread. Hunting chamois the end of december

Puhh:rolleyes:
crampons
snowshoes
stick
Underwear(T-shirts) to change.
I'm at home in Tirol.
Not so funny hunting in the mountains at this time.
But sometimes the snow is pressing the chamois down in the woods and you have only a lot of snow and no ice.Which area exactly?

Tagging along for the same reason chamois in November.

Related to that does anyone have a good source for a selection of the silver holders for chamois beards? I believe that call them gamsbarthalter in Germany.

Chamois and Stags, late September, early October in the Carpathian of Romania.

There are other places like Ernst Licht, but far less selection.

I have had good luck buying items such as that from Hickl in Salzburg, but am now experiencing a "block" on the shopping page, perhaps because I'm now in the US? https://antiksalzburg.at/

One needs a good, traditional hat.

Only due to vanity, I have a Lodenkotze mit Kragen. Not sure I'd wear it for Gams, but Loden is both warm and water resistant, if heavy. https://www.loden-friedl.de/Lodenkotze-Wetterfleck

I do have a nice soft shell jacket made/sold by Beretta, and I'd wear that as an outer layer, with fleece and polypro under.

I have a pair of Merkel trousers, made out of a material very like a soft shell jacket. Most warm.

I have a leather pair of trousers I bought at Frankonia, but I mostly use them for warmer weather hunts. Very much like these:

I have mountain boots that stood me in good stead (no pun intended) in the Hindu Kush, so I'd go with them, but that's just because I have them.

I love my Vorn QRR pack. https://vorn-equipment.com/info_qrr/

Not sure if I'd bring my Mannlicher M1903 stutzen or my Merkel K3 stutzen, one or the other.

I looked at the Franconia lederhosen just this afternoon, but before making a choice between that and traditional wool I wanted to hear from someone that had seen them up close. The price is high, but not out of bounds. Water resistance and durability would be my main concerns.

I’m not sure yet. I’m hunting with FN hunting. It’s a family trip so they are picking me up in Vienna everyday. They said the hunting area was about and hour away?

If you're looking to go "native", google German/Austrian/Romanian, etc. hunting clothing. The States have a plethora of technical clothing for hunting at altitude, but it's.....technical.

Attack pants would be fine. If you were late November or December I would go with something heavier even with a heavy base layer.

When moving around you will be fine but if you sit to glass for any amount of time you will get cold.

I will see if I can find my gear list from a December hunt.

Excellent outfitter, there are some cool hunting/gun stores in downtown Vienna.

I'm not sure how to rate them for water resistance, as I've mostly used them May through September. I'd imagine they would be heavy in the rain. Cleaning is rinsing with water, so there is that. They are durable... And extremely bramble resistant. Walking through thistle, etc. was easy. I like them. But I don't think I'd wear them in the rain or in the snow. Caught out in the rain, maybe. I'd imagine they'd be resistant for about an hour or so (like Loden). I think they go on sale in September or so... grab them then.

Hello! I saw your post from last year about a missing crate from your hunt in Moz. I am curious how that all turned out? We (my fiancé and I) also hunted in Moz in 2024 and the trophies are being shipped with Hunters Services Limitada. We have some concerns on whether we will get the trophies home or not. May I ask who you hunted with?
