How many times have you been on African hunting Safari?
Most clients I know about went once only. Not so many of those who return. One and done type.
Some of my friends are "interested" only. But they "need to collect first all the local species", or they are building the house, or have no time, or have no money at this point, and generally, they will never go.
Those are either priority issues, or moving from their comfort zone issue, or real budget constraints.

So, let's see where we are.

The poll is open without a time limit, and the vote can be changed later.

Just finished hunting safari number 5, 6 countries
1 working trip
1 photo safari - never again

Once, in Namibia w Dirk de Bod. Once, in South Africa, though that was a post business trip photo safari in some glam camp near Limpopo. Had a Cape Buff hunt planned for Zim, once more with Dirk, but Covid got in the way. Been hunting a bunch in Europe, and of course my home country, but planning to go back to Africa for buffalo and leopard, in particular. The goal is a month-long safari in Tanzania or such, when/if I get to slow down a bit. Africa just grabs you by the soul, if you let it, and you never really get over the beauty of the place.

October will be number 3 to Africa, want to do a fourth before it is too late. Once to NZ and Spain is booked for 26.

I’ve been 6 times and am leaving for number 7 this evening from Atlanta. I’m booked for number 8 in 2027. I hope to be able to go as often as I am able to manage financially and physically. Lots of places I haven’t seen yet and animals I haven’t hunted yet that I’d like to see and hunt.

I've been 9 times with #10 is booked for Tanzania next year. Still looking for a late season deal to pop up this year that I can't refuse. We'll see!

Sadly, in our consumerist show-off culture having "things" that are at hand everyday to illustrate status has become a priority over life experiences. For the price of a new pickup I could make dozens of plains game safaris. Then add in the insurance payments and bank interest = maybe a dozen more. I recently retired my 1988 Jimmy for a 2004 Envoy. $4K cash, no bank loans, no collision insurance premiums. Gave him the cheque and that was the end of it (almost ... required some suspension replaced over the winter = another $1K). I live in an 800 sq ft home (with finished basement) built in 1929. No fancy view. Just a one block long street and 75' lawn setback. It was paid for fifteen years ago. Anyone who drives by would not know that little old house with an old SUV in the driveway is full of African and North American trophies. It's because I live in an old house and drive an old vehicle that it's full of trophies. I never let culture dictate how I live.

I have been to Africa four times and hoping to fit in another trip next year.

I’ve been 4 times and hunted 5 areas. (Doubled up on first trip. Figured the travel was a major expense, so booked a second safari for while I was there). All since March of 2024.
I’ve been twice in ‘25 so far and have a trip to Zimbabwe schedule for November of ‘26.
Hunted Easern Cape, Limpopo, Zimbabwe, Namibia and KZN so far.
It’s so addictive.
And I’m just a working guy. Just need to set priorities I reckon.

ON this one thing we agree, live your life in your zone, not by others standards. my place was to be all paid off when I retired, due to a divorce it will never be, so what! Also first trip to Africa canceled due to the same. Moving on is the only way to go. I live in a beautiful setting , million dollar views , no close neighbors thats the way my wife and I like it, closest walmart ,{which I dont use} is 71 miles away. To me its freedom.

4th Coming up in Sept. Zimbabwe

I am interpreting "Up to 10" as 6-10.

8 trips to Africa. 5 in South Africa, once each to Namibia, Zimbabwe and Zambia. Plan on heading back to South Africa for the rhino and want to get back to Zambia again. At some point, Tanzania and Cameroon will get added. I figure I will need a minimum of 3 more trips to complete the SCI African 29 and maybe 4-5 to get diamond level on the Inner circle for Africa.

A warthog hunt? A destination not frequently travelled!
No much more interesting. Prime target will be Roan (Western), of course a couple big pigs. Also bushbuck is on the menu. There are some rare occasions that buffalo are seen but according to the outfitter it is rare. But I can take one if the opportunity arises. So I'll push the ph and trackers to their limits and they mine to bag one. We will see.

The game density is low so I'll see what happens. There should be some red flanked duikers and oribi in that area but only saw the duiker in the pictures he has send me.

It is no walk in the park but I'm up to the challenge. Currently trying to have the paperwork sorted out for traveling with my rifle. Customs said they call me back today but that did not happen. I'll try again tomorrow. If the paperwork does not work out buffalo is definitely of the table. They don't have a rifle that can take one.

It is definitely off the beaten track so I'll see what happens. I'll have 12 full hunting days.

9 times..mostly Botswana but also Namibia and South Africa.. I go when I can an will as long as possible.

I sense that for most of the people who you mention, Africa is too far out of their "comfort zone." They will always be "interested" but will continue to make excuses until time has passed them by.

I just saw Budsgunshop.com has both the guide gun and the African for $1150. FWIW - I bought both and decided to use the Guide gun - I restocked it in a Bell and Carlson stock and I added the Alaska arms floor plate to add a round. I wanted the shorter barrel as I will use a suppressor. I wont go lower than $1100, but I will ship it and no sales tax.

Let me know if you are interested
