this is a primary concern of mine. WHO is currently running the government? certainly not joe biden. he was elected, but has likely had little input in the last couple years. it would seem to me that a vote for biden is a vote for.....who exactly?

You Tube Hunting Couple Brown Bear Gone Wrong

you are exactly right. here is the problem, shooting at a 500+yard bear, it is going to run after the first shot, who knows ANYONE that can hit a running bear at 500+ yards? NOBODY!! i too guide brown bears, the 200 yard rule is a good one. i know a guy that lost a bear (a legit 10' bear)...

Got my first elk hunt this year - Help me pick a cartridge

don't use the lapua; a 3006 with 180+ gr bullet is a better choice. the 375 ruger with 250 gr GMX bullets are a good choice as well, i have shot moose and caribou with that bullet and it worked great.

    AA5744, H4227 - low recoil 375 H&H

try trail boss for low pressure loads. the manufacture makes recommendations on its use but it fills a lot of the case and makes for slow bullet speeds. re: weighing the rifle, mercury recoil reducers are available, i just put a round bar of lead (1 lb) in the butt of my 458 win to get the...

Understanding The Phenomenon Of Jacket-Core Separation

i did not lose the animal the bullet just came apart. hey, if someone wants to shoot cape buffalo with a crappy bullet, or a moose, eland, etc. thats on them. only costs you the trophy fee, oh yeah, and a sick or wounded animal. sorry so late on the reply, been hunting in Namibia.

Understanding The Phenomenon Of Jacket-Core Separation

in this case, i did not lose the animal and was able to see what happened to the bullet. the fragmented bullet on such a small animal told me (assuming the bullet would repeat its performance) that on a moose, the bullet would have fragmented too much to penetrate a moose properly (or caribou...

Understanding The Phenomenon Of Jacket-Core Separation

I generally agree with this thought. I don't agree with this thought. when a bullet sheds its jacket, there are a couple things happening, one the bullet is getting lighter (and depending on how many pieces of it, a lot lighter) two, the pieces are likely to divert from their original...

    Best 30mm rings

as noted above, that is a lot of scope for that rifle. a 1-4x or 6x would be less likely to slip, be lighter and more appropriate. 2 cents worth.

@Red Leg, i kind of agree, but.....there is soooooooooo much information to sort thru. you are obviously a man of the world and experience. that said, it is difficult for a regular voter to keep in touch with the news, not counting the barrage of info that comes from all sources. imagine...

I generally don't like to comment on political stuff, because many on one side or the other are pretty well entrenched and i am unlikely to be able to change minds no matter how good the facts, but, here goes. trump as a human is just like many of us; plenty of problems and sins to make him a...

    CRF vs Push feed

this is a revival of several old threads, but here goes: my experience with using push feeds is fairly extensive. i had 2 malfunctions from them. one, a blued 416 rem mag in a model 700. at the range, after firing (factory loads) the rifle failed to extract the round. at home i pushed the...

    Question for the reloading experts...

hey scott, if you are NOT out of ammo, it would be worth shooting one or two over a chrono to get the actual speed. would be a good reference point. and yes, 2900 fps does sound pretty fast.

  33. 1dirthawker

    45-70 for dangerous game?

IVW, i agree with most of what you post. my only question is... with a good solid, 458 400 gr bullet put on the buffalo's shoulder or just behind, you don't think it would do the job? i expect it would end up under the hide on the opposite side or a complete pass thru. re: 100 fps and...

    45-70 for dangerous game?

NOT what i said. what i said was: again, a 100 fps difference (in the tropical load, the 450-400 shoots 400 gr @ 2050 fps) or less will likely not be that big of a deal in the real world. so, don't use the 45-70. no harm, no foul.

    45-70 for dangerous game?

I don't know if a brown bear is considered "dangerous game". If it is, then i have some small experience with the 45-70 on dangerous game. i have a 45-70, stainless and laminate stock that i extended the magazine on (they make em like that now) and i can state with full confidence that with a...

thats why I dont like doubles (have one)

as stated before, the first shot was a bit high. the real issue to me was like @redleg said, slow reloading. the client had a tough time getting his gun to cycle, but did pretty good i thought. the PH was pretty slow getting his fresh ammo into his gun. that said, i suspect it is hard to...
