It's weird but not all temporary export permits require a signature on return. We are about 50/50 on them but definitely get a signature from a CBSA officer on the ones that do require signature. I'm happy our last one didn't require one because our rifles never made it back on same flight as us.
There's really nothing to bill them for. They eventually got them to both destinations. I'll try to get something for rifle hire for the days from outfitter but that's it.
It used to be our favourite airline to Africa as well. It wasn't only our rifles on this trip but those of the others in our party. They had a success rate of 33% getting rifles to destination on time and they did nothing to try to expedite mine on the way there. It sat in Calgary for two days...
We’ve flown KLM for six safaris and had great service and flights were well priced. Out of Canada going through Europe is much simpler than going through US but last year they left our rifle in Amsterdam but got it to us a day later so we wrote it off to crap happens. This year out of three of...
The hippo wasn't actually in the water but in a very small puddle that was knee deep but I guessing you knew that. :) Thanks for the kind words...it was an awesome hunt :)
Haha, they make other bullets too including a bonded DGX. The two buffs in Tanzania were pretty healthy and old...both died. The hippo too. That's why I believe ;)
We’ve hunted free range Namibia twice and it was amazing but the species list is a bit limited for true free range. I’m so glad we experienced it but its one of those been there done that’s things and are just looking for new experiences now.
We’ve done numerous plains game hunts in Africa and it was a free-range Barbary sheep hunt that first attracted us to Lalapa Safaris which we did in 2016. We really liked what we saw and felt we only got a small taste on our first hunt with them so returned this year. This was the first time we...
Some hunters find it hard to believe that true free-range hunting still exists in South Africa and often what is touted as free range isn't but, there is still some great true free-range hunting on the Eastern Cape. This isn't wild Africa but your typical farm and ranch country that we hunt here...
I cringe when I see people lifting their heads as they are taking the shot! You'll never see the impact better than through the scope or down the barrel with irons!
Anyone else practice this with a rimfire? We'll shoot several thousand rounds before every trip. I'm not sure you can ever practice enough! Obviously we practice with our hunting rifles as well.
Good advice on where to place the rifle and forming a triangle with the body for sure. I've used this hand hold on rifles up to 375 H&H with no issues but you sure could be right on the bigger stuff. I see this new hold I'm using especially useful for longer range shooting on plains game. I can...
So I've played a lot with my hand position when shooting off sticks and have recently started this. Anyone else shoot off sticks like this? It seems crazy accurate!
Trophy fees are actually a real bargain in Tanzania and it becomes more affordable with the more dangerous game you shoot. Tanzania, 100% worth it but no question outside the budget of many. Glad we went and will likely go back.
As it turned out the shot was perfect but I too thought that I'd hit a bit far forward and penetration had been compromised. In fact, I had about a foot of penetration and the arrow stopped on the far shoulder. Shockingly there was zero blood for the first 80 yards and I never thought we'd see...
Going to try and do it on foot but have a couple blinds in strategic locations if need be. We saw piles of them on our last trip to EC and I'd never really thought about hunting them there but after hunting them in Europe, NZ and Argentina, it seems crazy not to. Never any lack of things to hunt...

For anyone heading to New Zealand on a hunting trip in the near future, it looks as though the police have temporarily stopped issuing permits. https://www.police.govt.nz/advice/firearms-and-safety/visitors-firearms-licence-and-import-permits
Very cool.....we have one of each on same pedestal as well with one drinking...cool to have them together sp people can see the difference. Hope to add a cape mountain this year!
Lots of changes in the past few weeks for Canadian hunting television. The World Fishing Network has become the Canadian version of The Sportsman's Channel with primarily hunting programing and Wild TV has partnered with with Pursuit TV to become Wild Pursuit Network. Apparently hunting...
