The taylor and ruger are both good rounds. The 416 WSM or 416 B&M you will be hunting with a round than not everyone else has.

No I haven't tried barnes or 300gr bullets yet yet. Shot 350 speer and 400gr hornaday. Have several more I plan on testing, but currently confirming the loads for my 500/416 double and my wife's 375 for our safari this fall.

Of the two bullets the Barnes is a better choice. It is tough enough to penetrate the shoulder and expand properly. The other is a much softer bullet.

Also in SE AZ, depending on what part of South Africa you are hunting the weather and terrain will change. Do you know the province you will be hunting in?

You can put together a list but sometimes when you see an animal the way it moves and blends in will have you put it to the top of your list. But based on you initial question. My suggestion in addition to the primary animals you have stated would be Giraffe, Klipspringer, impala, warthog...

I had a 458WM but replaced it with a 458 B&M, for the smaller 458's a 458 SOCOM, 450 Marlin, 45/70. Like shooting all of them for different reasons. You 350 and 500 approach will take care of anything you want to hunt.

Nice report. It is always a gratifying experience when you get to take first timers to africa. Seeing the joys they experience is special. Will say if you had passed on that Roan you would kick yourself every day when you get out of bed and twice in the evening. Not to mention a few WTF's...

@hoytcanon nice 4 rifle stable. Have a 450marlin built on a ruger 77. Kinda like a 458 american. i like the small 458 cal rifles, they provide a solid power in a handy package that are easy to load for.

Would recommend looking at what Intrepid Safaris offers.

I am also using SSI and have have a crate in NY waiting to clear. SSI is on top of it and have kept me informed that NY clearing is running slow. So I am just being patience.
