African Huntin Boots

I bought a pair of Jim Greeen 8 inch boots and used them in Zim in July loved them. Recently bought off of ebay a pair of Jim Green Razorbacks with the ranger sole. I really like them and they will be my backup for my hunt in Bots in a few weeks. Still like the 8 inch boots better

I have 3 pairs of Jim Green African Ranger boots and although I really like Courtney boots, I find the JGs far more comfortable, lighter, and quieter. I do wear a good arch supporting insoles in all my shoes and this is a MUST for me.
Nothing matches the durability and toughness of the Courtney tire tread but they are also heavy.
I guess everything is a trade off. Lighter, quieter, and more comfortable boot like the AR - BUT - less durable and impenetrable sole like the Courtney.
I have worn one pair of African Rangers 3-4 days a week for nearly 2 years and give zero complaints. About 6 months ago I bought a pair for nicer occasions. 3 weeks ago I bought a pair of the A Ranger “barefoot” boots and they are my absolute favorites; immediately comfortable and felt broken in like old shoes.
After 2 yrs wearing the JG ARs, I RARELY put on my other boots and don’t see that changing unless JG does something stupid like discontinuing them :)

I have boots made by Danner, Courtney and Under Armor.
The Courtney boots are built stout. I find them to be comfortable to wear, I did put a pair of orthotics in them. As others have stated they are heavy. These are my go to boots if I am not in wet conditions.

I also wear good wool socks. My go to brand right now is Darn Tough. They have a kick ass warrenty. Way better sock than smart wool.

My three pair of Danner’s are all water proof. They each have a specific type of use, cold weather hunting, upland hunting and a combat style boot.

The Under Armor boots with a leather upper are very light weight and comfortable. These boots also stop thorns in the bush.

I tried on 3 different pair of Jim Green boots. They all had roll the lenght of the sole that I found to be very uncomfortable.

I don’t believe in buying uncomfortable shoes and hoping they will break in.

Bandera ,I totally agree . I am 68 and don’t wear anything I need to break in. If it is not great out of the box it goes back. I like Danner boots a lot . I also like Kenetrek Corrie 2 Light hiker for a mountain hunt here in Montana. I think I am going to order Lems leather boulder boot. Nothing to lose with free returns.

Any 4” or 6” hiking boot from your Keene, Merrel, or others are good. A soft sole is better than a hard Vibram!

thanks for your reply bob , is it feasible to build a 444 on a P14/M17 , or is the no4 enfield easier to build? i know where i can buy a lothar walther barrel in 44, 1-38 twist , but i think with a barrel crown of .650" the profile is too light .
