    .223 for Steinbok, Duiker, Klipspringer?

See. I agree with that. Have said it a million times. The guy that started this thread asked if using a 223 for tiny 10 and he was ok was told not to use it. To use a 375.

    .223 for Steinbok, Duiker, Klipspringer?

I think calling 375 the perfect gun for tiny ten is very similar.

Man a drilling does seem to be a nice rifle for walking through the bush with multiple animals on the list.

    .223 for Steinbok, Duiker, Klipspringer?

Again. What does that have to do with anything? My PH has more experience than you. So that means he’s right and you’re wrong? Worst cop out answer ever. I’ve shot as many 30-50lb think skinned animals as you. Just because I’ve been to Africa once doesn’t mean I have nothing to give to the...

Yeah. Been my experience also. Doubt you would carry your 375hh out there to coyote hunt with. Haha.

    It will both.

Factory colt barrel has 1/7. You could source one of those cheap and just screw it on
  9. D

    .223 for Steinbok, Duiker, Klipspringer?

I’d move from those states. Haha. I’m gonna have a Blaser r8 barrel made in 223 with 1/8. I lobe my large calibers but a small lightweight 223 is nice a lot of the time.

Just asked my ph. His answer.

    .223 for Steinbok, Duiker, Klipspringer?

My ar is a colt le6920. It has 1/7 twist. 1/8 will stabilize 77TMK also. Can also use 73eldm You can buy an appropriate barrel cheap, or a whole upper for three to $400.

    .223 for Steinbok, Duiker, Klipspringer?

I have shot one. That said, I would trust someone less on this conversation that their only thoughts on the issue were “I used 375 and it was great.” Anecdotal evidence is the worst kind because it often tricks you into thinking what you did was right, when it is often dead wrong. I could...

    .223 for Steinbok, Duiker, Klipspringer?

That’s just not true. What if it’s a different bullet? Also larger bullets are often not applied to same spot at same rate as smaller ones. That’s why 1-2moa is acceptable on large caliber and not for smaller.
  14. D

    .223 for Steinbok, Duiker, Klipspringer?

True. Read the thread on other site and let me know what you think. I will say it makes a lot of sense and goes against most of what I read here. I have taken several deer with 223 and they die just as dead.
  15. D

    .223 for Steinbok, Duiker, Klipspringer?

No. Velocity has that effect. Not energy. Energy “may” have an effect on stopping a charging buffalo. Has zero input into our conversation of shooting a tiny ten. Or really any non dangerous game animal.
  16. D

    .223 for Steinbok, Duiker, Klipspringer?

Then you would shoot a smaller caliber even more effectively. It’s simple physics.
  17. D

    .223 for Steinbok, Duiker, Klipspringer?

I agree with that. Would use a frangibke bullet.
  18. D

    .223 for Steinbok, Duiker, Klipspringer?

Again. Read it first before getting to high on the horse. Believe it or not bullet energy doesn’t kill an animal.
  19. D

    .223 for Steinbok, Duiker, Klipspringer?

And you’d be dead wrong on what you’ll find.

Zero chance you shoot it as well as you think you do.

    .223 for Steinbok, Duiker, Klipspringer?

Pelt hunters in USA have been worried about that far longer than people here have. Go to any predator hunting website and it is talked about ad nauseam. And not one will suggest a 375 with a solid.

Hi lots of good data on that. DON'T HAVE TIME TO READ 176 PAGES? HERE'S THE CHEAT SHEET. “Bullets matter more than headstamps.” “Spent primers offer the supreme tutorial”. I’ve read it here and elsewhere online. It got my attention. I started digging and asking questions and listened...

    .223 for Steinbok, Duiker, Klipspringer?

It seems to be more of a “we already have a 375h&h so don’t bring another gun”. Maybe I’m wrong. Imagine if you showed up to hunt a prairie dog, coyote, bobcat, small doe white tail with a 375 solid. Would it get the job done. Sure. Would you be laughed at and told you had the wrong tool for...

    .223 for Steinbok, Duiker, Klipspringer?

I shoot coyotes and bobcats with 223 all the time. There have been more varmints taken with 223 than tiny 10 animals ever taken. It is probably the ideal bullet if your job is to harvest the animal.

Any reason not to use a 300 PRC for Plains Game??

My only issue with this response is I read over and over here that 375 h&h is the perfect one gun solution in Africa. Most say don’t take two guns and just take your plains game with it. And most downplay the recoil in that situation.

Article on heavier vs lighter for caliber bullet penetration

You didn’t read the article or the multiple posts with data by @michael458 on the subject, but certainly didn’t hesitate giving your opinion on the subject. And your opinion had almost nothing to do what is being discussed. Gotta love the internet.

Article on heavier vs lighter for caliber bullet penetration

I like hammers but love raptors. CEB makes an Extended Range raptor with a ballistic coefficient that gets close to most other long range bullets. They also have a maximus line which has higher ballistic coefficient, and those are much more similar to the hunter bullets. The idea is the blades...

Those are all great questions. Michael will have great answers. Just a heads up. Michael helped design and test those bullets. So you’re not debating a yokel like me, but the expert. So a little different than a normal back and forth. I doubt you’ll find much traction in the “a frame causing...

Article on heavier vs lighter for caliber bullet penetration

Surely that’s not a concern on a trophy hunted animal? If so then why not use a 22-250 and head shot them? Most shots in Africa are less than 100 yards. Should be easy to do

    Choke preference

I’m with you Bee. I grew up shooting semi auto. Took me a while to get OU down pat. I’ll tell you, gun to my head I would take my benelli ethos cordoba 28 gauge semi auto on a once in a lifetime bird hunt over my f3 or citori. But mainly because I would get 3 shots instead of 2. Ha

    Choke preference

@BeeMaa, you are as fine of a gentleman as Is on this board. You can’t make an inference on chokes based on you shooting better with your old faithful gun. It most likely shoulders and points well for you, fits you well, and you have a familiarity. A great shooter will beat a poor shooter no...

What problems have you encountered with your Blaser R8?

I have found you have to cycle the round firmly every time. My guess is with smaller round you aren forcibly closing the bolt like you do in some of the larger calibers. Even if you cycle gently, you can give bolt handle a firm push forward after closing and it should solve the issue.
