What are the ideal components of a Control Round Feed action, and which actions have the best features?

I like the safeties in the same spot as the CZ's, but I prefer a push forward to fire. My ideal safety is a push forward safety in the middle of the grip, like on a Ruger no.1

So what about those actions do you specifically like? The safety? Fit and finish? Trigger?

What are the ideal components of a Control Round Feed action, and which actions have the best features?

I would love to get an idea of what people consider not only the best CRF actions, but also, which features they consider the best. In a sense, if you could hybridize the best CRF action, what parts would it borrow from other Actions? For back story, I already have a few CRF rifles: -FN...

Interesting, I did not know that quickload had issues with straight walled cases. Thanks for the tip.

    500 NE 3" load data

That is one of my issues though. I am not really chasing velocity, so much as the traditional 2150 that they used to get with cordite. But even when I use quickload with your lower recommendation of 103grs, it shows this load to be over pressure:

    500 NE 3" load data

Good day All, I am having a Ruger No.1 falling block, converted to a 500 NE, and I am running into a lot of conflicting issues looking for loads. Namely: 1. There are not a lot of resources out there for this grand old caliber. 2. Some of the data I can find, is using powders I cannot find...

HELP!!! Double Krieghoff 9.3x74R Regulating query and assistance

I have a hunt booked in SA for this August. Hoping to take a zebra, kudu, and gems with this 9.3. I know they can take a buff, but I am saving that for a 500 NE single shot I am building up.

HELP!!! Double Krieghoff 9.3x74R Regulating query and assistance

To be fair, this was the first box of ammo I had put through it. And it took slightly less than a box. Would have only taken half a box, had I looked up this thread before I started! Now I have a double rifle that is shooting sub inch! Though perhaps I got lucky!

HELP!!! Double Krieghoff 9.3x74R Regulating query and assistance

Old thread and all that, but just dropping a thanks! I was taking a Krieghoff 9.3x74r to the range to put its first few rounds down the pipe, and did not have a manual with me. I found this thread by @Nembwe and it was exactly what I needed. Allowed me to get under an in on shots 17/18, and...

To Sling or not to Sling a Dangerous Game Rifle, That is the Question

I tend towards never slinging guns, in Africa or in BC. I have jumped game in the past and lost the chance on good animals, where the time to un-sling was about the time I needed to get a good shot off. I hear the argument for slinging, and then taking it off on the final approach, however that...

In memoriam - The sad passing of a great gunmaker - Martin Hagn

An absolute shame. He not only made beautiful rifles. He also designed the Hagn action; a Farquharson style action that hides all of the pins for a cleaner look, that was available in different sizes (even up to the 700 nitro).

    Looking for a Checklist

Good day Gent's, A friend (BC Tal) and I are heading to South Africa (From Canada) in August 2024. This is our first Safari, and I was wondering if anyone has a word file checklist of things to go over. I have been reading the threads about travel, but just though it was likely that some of you...

Hey all, So it looks like I will be hunting next summer in SA, but I am having a heck of a time finding premium 9.3 286gr bullets in Canada. I have googled extensively looking for: -NorthFork soft point -Norma Oryx -Swift A-frame -Nosler partition All I can find is 1 box (50) of...

I seek the advice of the brain trust - Of lefties

AH! but you see, his other rifle is a 416 rigby, so this means his plains and DG would both be rigby! Which is something a 35 whelen cannot do! Also... It is noted that your solution also involves getting a 35 whelen ;)

Thanks for the responses all. For the record I have told him that his 416 can take everything. But he does have his heart set on a lefty plains gun in something a bit more unique. I will for sure look up a few of the actions considered here. Thanks again.

Good day All, So I am mostly a lurker on here, and a relatively new member. That being said I am a fairly accomplished hunter (In Canada) and compete in shooting comps at a reasonable level; I am also a fan of reloading, and am subsequently fairly aware of calibers and actions and such. So I...

    300 H&H with Hornady ELD-X 212 Grain bullet

Interesting, I had one partially blow up (178 eldx from 308) in a large whitetail. but 2/3 of the bullet penetrated well though. In the end it smashed the heart and caused him to drop on the spot. So while I will use them, I think using heavy ones and assuming half the bullet will ablate in the...

CZ550 Safari Magnum? Check, Winchester Model 70 Safari Express? Check. What affordable dangerous game rifle should I consider next?

@Velo Dog @Ontario Hunter I think a lot of it is not necessarily "velocity madness" as it is "numerical comparison fixation" being driven by new tools and software. 20-30 years ago, almost nobody had chronographs. Almost nobody had cellphones, and cell phones were just phones. Few people even...

CZ550 Safari Magnum? Check, Winchester Model 70 Safari Express? Check. What affordable dangerous game rifle should I consider next?

A lot of guys are chiming in on calibers, and giving some excellent advice. But! Lets talk platform for a minute! I think you should consider a Ruger no.1! They are a hoot to shoot, and due to the strength of the action, you can get a lot out of some of the classic rounds. Last year I picked...

Hello All, I'm a long time lurker who just joined formally

Thanks for the reply. I have tried the NEG red pads, and installed one on my 9.3x74r and 450/400. I find them to be rather hard pads, and not at all like the ones that came on my 7mm rem mag or several other rifles. I built a custom stock for the 9.3, and I found that more surface area on the...

Hello All, I'm a long time lurker who just joined formally

Afternoon, I do not, I like the idea of them, and perhaps one day I will get one (450ne would be my choice) but they are somewhat against the accuracy I crave. I shoot competitively so I am hooked on ultra accurate rifles. To that end I have a stable of Ruger no.1's. In 7x57, 9.3x74r, 450/400...

Hello All, I'm a long time lurker who just joined formally

Thanks for the welcome! I have a few of their red pads, but I found them rather hard. Though they look excellent! I am trying to find ones that are softer and vented that are also red. In my mind the red pads just look more traditional.

Morning, I have to admit, I have been coming here for a year or two to learn. But I figured I should make an account to be a little more interactive. About me: I live in BC Canada, I hunt a few times a year for: Spring bear, fall bear, fall elk and deer. I have taken a handful of elk and...
