Welcome
You will fit in very nicely. Hunters and shooters from all over the world here.
Would love to read some your stories about hunting in your part of the world.
Saw my PH wearing a Rogue hat and decided I needed one.
Ordered one directly from South Africa. At 40 bucks it’s cheap enough. But in the sun it’s priceless.
I ordered a green hat with a mesh crown and a canvas brim. Very light and comfortable.
Very much prefer it to the Tilley style that I...
One of the no longer made Winchester 1300s with the 22 inch barrel is a very light pump.
I’d look for one of them if I wanted a light pump.
I have a Benelli Ultralight and a really nice reliable light shotgun.
I have two of them. They don't make a better woods rifle.
It kills hogs like a lightning strike. Deer too. I have thought about taking one to Africa just for the fun of it.
Just so every one knows, I bought a rifle just like this one from him in 308 and it's a gem.
He is a FFL holder and stocking local dealer in South Carolina. His word is good on anything he tells you.
Furthermore at some point I intend to get him to go to Africa with me. Fine fellow to deal...
I would be interested in buying a Marlin 41 magnum.
PM me some pics and I can make an offer. If it’s in good shape I can beat the 650.00 without hesitation.
I have a custom 41 Magnum built by John Gallagher. It has a custom holster with Gallagher’s name on it that was actually made by Thad Ribka.
It is a very fine hunting revolver and it will do anything I need a revolver to do. The Ruger 41s are built on a 357 sized frame so they are lighter than...
I have the Trijicon 1-6 with the green triangle.
It worked great on plains game and buffalo.
Had no trouble with it on a charging bull.
On 1 power it’s the fastest scope made in my opinion.
A family friend, the late Bobbie Joe Parsons, used her Steyr Carbine in 7x57 to take Cape Buffalo and Rhino with 175 grain solids. She used the same rifle to take a lot of plains game as well.
She was the daughter of former Alabama governor George Wallace. She was a small lady and did not shoot...
Probably 90% of the world's Rhinos are on private land in South Africa. There is still a brisk profitable trade in rhino horn but it involves poachers who slip into these properties and kill rhinos to sell the on the black market.
Land owners with rhinos must bear the full cost of the anti...
I have a Steyr SM12 and it’s an incredible rifle.
Mine had the wood stock and fiber optic iron sights.
It’s has Talley QD Bases and rings and shoots bullet weights from 180 to 286 grains to the same point of impact.
It is very close to perfect from my point of view.
I also have a CZ 550 with...
I am five hours from Atlanta and Nashville. Will go to one, maybe both meetings. I have never been to either one so am looking forward to it.
I have been to some other shows as an exhibitor.
I have a Brno ZKK 602.
Rifle is in nearly new condition. Has classic style french walnut stock. It was chambered in 458 Win Mag but has been made to handle 458 Lott. Action has been smoothly and polished to feed perfectly.
Have a little ammo as well. Have to check on exactly what.
I would...
Phil Shoemaker used a Remington 700 type rifle during the Vietnam war.
When guiding clients for brown bear, he uses controlled round feed rifles.
There is a difference in sniping at long range where accuracy is everything and dangerous game at point blank range where reliability is indeed...
I have not used the Remington 140 but I have used high velocity loads from hornady as well as 270 wsm and 270 weatherby loads.
A little extra velocity will work fine in my experience.
A 9.3 x74R would be a great do everything double.
For just North America, a double in 7x65 R or 8mm JRS does about anything.
You could use iron sights or a red dot for close range.
Or an optic sighted in for the right barrel for longer shots.
One 375 Whitworth Mauser
One 375 Model 70 Alaskan
One 416 Model 70 Safari Express
Also have one Brno ZKK 602 in 458
Had a CZ 550 in 416 Rigby but sold it for a reason that escapes me at present.
Glad someone snapped it up. I really like mine.
So far mine has been shot at game three times and each time resulted in a very quick one shot kill.
I think it’s probably one of the very best choices for dangerous game for a client.
It also works great on plains game as well.
I have used the rifle to shoot some hogs at very close range on my Boar Buster Trap.
You can use the 1.7 power very quickly at very close range when the animals are running in every direction
I have one. It’s mounted on a M70 Alaskan in 375 H&H.
I have the illuminated number 4 reticle.
I have shot maybe 50 rounds through this rig.
Optics are super clear, tracks well and holds zero.
1.7 power is low enough to keep both eyes open. 10 power is great for longer shots.
My friend...
I purchased my 470 from Rare Breed. He had already worked up handloads and installed weight in the butt stock to bring the over all weight to 11 pounds.
It is more comforable to shoot than my M70 in 375 H&H.
A Heym in 450/400 would be a wonderful double rifle but the Chapuis in 450/400 or...
I think there was a 30 caliber mauser cartridge but it was built on a .311 bullet like the 303 british.
7.65 Argentine Mauser?
But your rifle uses the more available .308 bullets and 8x57 brass so it’s a much better modern wildcat.
7.62x57
That has to be the finest example of Rifle Looney that I’ve seen.
You have managed to fill the gap between 308 and 30-06 with a cartridge that fills the gap between 7x57 and 8x57.
Actually a perfectly useful, unique cartridge but it seems like a lot of effort to build and use.
But...
Kevin
Thanks do much for posting. I have a Ruger Number One in 450/400 and have a supply of Hornady factory ammo and component bullets for it.
The DGX Bonded look very good to me.
You list a velocity of 2150 fps.
Were you shooting handloads?
Someone on this site did use it on buffalo and posted pictures of recovered bullets.
They were pretty flattened out and not very confidence inspiring.
The CX is just a new version of the GMX with some changes to make it more aerodynamic.
When I called Hornady about their 250 grain GMX on cape buffalo, they said it had been tested on plains game up to eland but did not recommend it for Buffalo.
The information about the current design of partitions came through John Barsness.
It’s possible to test this for yourself if you want to compare using dry news print which is very tough on bullets. I did this with my 9.3x62 last year.
John has written extensively about the testing. I can’t...
