I also have your experience taking game in Africa. All with Swift A Frames and Barnes Monos. When a bullet penetrates to the off shoulder on Cape Buffalo in a perfect Mushroom then you have your answer. Are their bullets that “Perform better” I’m sure there are. Having confidence in your kit is a...
Push feed for plains game! CRF for Dangerous game.Upside down or right side up try chambering a round while your running for your life, I worked for Remington and love the 700. I use a Model 70 for dangerous game.
I read the report on hunting ethics and perceptions there of. Does this photo from Europe come across as horrible cruel and narcissistic? People do appalling things all the time. The guy who ran over the wolf and brought it into a bar with his muzzle tapedshould be drawn and quartered. Calling...
The resolution on European glass is unmatched.Chances are you might never need the toughness of a NightForce.Binos there is no debate. Leica,Swarovski and Zeiss are the best.
I lived in Zimbabwe before land reform and loved it. This was in the early 90’s.I read some of Kevin’s reports and it brings back great memories.I would also take note of his advice. I found out I’m an American who lives in Arizona. I travel and hunt extensively. I like to carry a firearm for...
You have lots of options now. I used the 400 gr. Swift A-Frame for the first shot followed by two Barnes Monolithic Solids. Worked well. I would also use the Hornady DGX.
I really like the taste of the 50-75 pound variety. These were south of Houston. Not a lot of meat on the ribs but delicious. Making it a point to hunt them more often!
That really is a bad deal. I had the same thing happen but refused to let it ruin Africa for me. It is a buyer beware situation. I’m a heavy reference guy but that’s not foolproof. An agent at least gives you someone to speak with or air your grievances.
Are you signing a contract and getting a receipt for your payments. This is not failsafe but if an outfitter won’t provide a contract I’m out. Been there done that.Booking agents can be invaluable.
I was working for Remington when the 416 came Out. I shot my first buff with the Remington M700. No problem. I shifted to the M/70 Safari Grade and never looked back. I would use a 700 for everything but Dangerous game.
Great report. I used to fly over the swamps with a Christian missionary from Zim. The herds of Buffalo and waterbuck standing in water up to their backs was always a sight. Just a little stewardship and Africa blooms. Fantastic. I love reading about all you hunters going there and having success!
I have done Alaska a couple of times. Love it nothing like it! Yukon twice again love it. Both are pretty expensiv. Go to New Foundland. 120,000 Moose. Might get lucky and get a 50 plus but something 40 plus more likely. I have never done it but am looking for a less expensive option as well.
We used to carry a barrel with a salt mixture in it. Hunting Sable their hair slips fast. If we were too far from camp which where you were hunting is everyday. You just caped it out on the spot and threw it in the barrel.
We were shooting for a museum in Canada. So a family of Giraffe was on order. The nyama from the youngest was the best. Day in day out Eland is hard to beat. I like it all even Ele but harder to chew.I saw the Ox tail comments and I wholeheartedly agree. Very nice!
I see this thread has just re opened. I always thought I might be able to fly over from Alaska to the Kamchatka Peninsula . Like 3 1/2 hours if I remember correctly. What an adventure! You know what Alaska is a great adventure too.Trying to “sneak” into Russia and hunt is just not worth it. My...
I always go back to the toughest on an African hunt.No sacrificing resolution or eye relief. NightForce NX-8 1-8. Illuminated!I have only killed two Leopards but have set up a lot of blinds. 300 Win mag!
Could I ask about your hunt in Botswana and maybe a pic or two! When I lived in Zim,I loved crossing the boarder to Francistown. I can’t remember the name of the place but I loved the Cheese Grillers.Food was tough to come by in Zim.
