You have to be careful around blacktails. If you screw with them at all they will come after you. Green mojave are also aggressive. Ive caught several mojave that rattled at my truck poking along gravel roads from 20-30’ away.
I was charged by a small male grizzly in Alaska. He seemed to be in good shape with good teeth. I looked all around for a kill he might be defending but found nothing. I guess he was just in a crappy mood. I had been false charged twice by bears and the difference is very apparent when they...
I was fishing on the beach in east cape, Baja and a guy came along selling beautiful carvings. He lold me that he did the carving, his father went up in the mountains to cut the special wood and his wife did the staining and finishing. I bought a jumping sailfish and when I got it home I noticed...
I grew up in the area and my dad was the game warden in Georgetown when the jogger was killed in Auburn Lake Trails. My dad got a local houndsman to catch the lion. A necropcy revealed the female cat had a belly full of blacktail deer and wasn’t hungry.
DLSJR, you may have met my dad there.
I have only killed one pig and that was a very very big boar in SW New Mexico. We got it home and butchered and in freezers. When we tried to cook it the meat stunk so bad you couldnt stand to be in the kitchen. We tried several different cuts and they were all the same. He ended up as a bait...
I spent a little time in El Salvador and kids would catch iguanas to sell but they were half the size of that monster. Did you use a push feed or CRF rifle?
Yes Hoopla makes audio books available through local libraries. I believe the libraries pay a fee for every audio book the gets downloaded through them.
My local bank is not able to fugure out how to do a swift transfer. After numerous tries i ended up sending the money to my sister inlaw who works in a bank on the other side of the country and they sent it to namibia.
Awhile back someone asked for a list of what gear and food went along on a safari of bygone days. I cant find the post now but ive found a book from around 1910 that lists everything they took along, what all the natives did that they hired and lots of other logistics that other authors omit...
Once I was in line at convience store and the guy in front of me was buying some lottery tickets and when he was done he asked the casheir if she knew where the unemployment office was. Now there was a guy with a sound financial plan.
I have been trying to wire money to an outfitter in Namibia and having problems. My Credit Union sent the money using Western Union but it came back as undeliverable. Windhoek bank said Western union does not work there and it needs to be done through a SWIFT transaction. My Credit Union doesn’t...
I have not heard anywhere whether or not anti armor or anti aircraft missiles have been delivered. Getting convoys of weapons across an embattled country does not seem like a simple propasition. As far as I know we have not yet produced a stealthy C-17!
Moose stomping dog teams or snow machines is not uncommon when the snow is deep. The moose like walking on the packed trail and don’t like to yield the right of way. I once thought I was going to have to take on a cow moose with a 22 pistol but luckily she backed off after about a minute.
“Obsession With Tactical Rifles”
At one point I imagine our great great grand fathers couldn’t understand why all those whipersnappers were obsessed with those newfangled smokeless cartridges. Muzzle loading black powder rifles were good enough for them.
Unfortunately I lived in Vegas a few years around 1990 and the food and drink was cheap. They seemed to use the low prices to draw you in, and get drunk so you would gamble more. Not anymore. How about $24 for a double Jim Beam. $30 for 2 hot dogs, 1 bottle of water, and small fries.
I used to shoot lots of cinnamon teal on lake mead near vegas when I was forced to live in that miserable part of the world. Thats the only place ive hunted where they were common.
