    *** Cowboy Boots ***

I wear them more or less every day Traveling, hunting down in TX where I’m not hiking, at the barn or on the horse, pretty much everywhere. I have a lot, but my go-to is Anderson Bean with the rubber midfoot insert in the sole. I’ve got Lucchese, Beck, Fenoglio, Double H also, but the Anderson...

    African Huntin Boots

I personally found the Courteney boots to be overrated. On a Brannock device, I am an 11.5D on the nose, maybe a smidge on the higher side of a D width. Pretty average foot, finding shoes that fit is never an issue for me. A 10.5UK D width Courteney Selous is still a very wide boot, the last is...

Yeah, when they do get it they get a lot. I have seen some flash floods in the desert that absolutely terrified me.

I have flown in and out of Dubai (and the larger Middle East) a lot...in general, that part of the world doesn't plan for rain.

    New custom rifle questions

@Wiley64 Don't start buffing, polishing, or grinding on anything. Your issue is with the cartridge and the magazine as far as action stiffness/cartridge marring goes if I were to guess. Is the action issue resolved when dry cycling? I am unaware of a .375 H&H optimized detachable magazine. As...

    New custom rifle questions

That Vortex is a Razor II, they’re made in the same factory as Nightforce, March, and the high end Bushnells and many others. LOW in Japan, check them out. It is an exceptionally high quality scope. Probably the most robust low-power variable optic on Earth, has passed all of NSWC Crane’s...

I looked into it, apparently on the Canadian side it’s the same exact process.

Swarovski CL Companion 8x30 Binoculars, Brand New (Unboxed For Pictures)

I keep a pair of these on hand for the same reason you got them, to have a compact set for when my 12x NLs or 10x ELs are too bulky. I’ve been really happy with them, they’re convenient and not going up much for their size. Way better than the CL Pocket binos IMO. Good luck with the sale...

338 Norma Magnum selected by US Special Forces

This initiative started around 2009, with a 300WM variant of the M240B that was fraught with peril (disintegrating links don’t like belts). Various companies have been working on it for almost 15 years, and the guns are pretty great at this point. The original 338NM belt fed was a General...

    New Lipseys M77 .35 Whelen

I mean, I really like it, it's very well done...but if someone walked in here with $2500 cash they'd have a new rifle. I could put together a really nice Mauser or pre-64 M70 for that.

What Watch do you wear when you hunt?

Nice pile! Those Hamiltons are great watches and have a very cool history. What’s on the far left? Love the Omega and Tudor too, a Pelagos FXD is on my very short list.

    My new Heym 404 Jeff

I thought my Heym was special, and it is, but it isn’t this kind of special. That is a beautiful gun and I know it will perform as well as it looks.

    Blaser R8 Owner in USA

I love it, they're beautiful. I would argue the Sauer has more flexibility in concept, they just don't support it. The receiver fits all available barrel contours and furniture, you don't have to contend with aluminum v. steel, wood v. polymer, standard vs Jaeger, 15/19/22mm barrels, and all...

    Blaser R8 Owner in USA

I can't see a scenario where comparable Sauer 505 costs less than an R8. Key word being comparable. The 404/505 have all the same benefits on paper that the R8 does in terms of modularity but everything costs more...barrels, bolts/bolt heads, stocks/forends, etc. Plus you have to buy a $300...

    Experience with a 19mm .416 barrel for R8?

https://www.eurooptic.com/blaser-r8-rifle-barrel.aspx?q=&o=4&p=1&i=48&d=48 Yeah, to go up 2mm in barrel diameter double or almost triples the cost, depending on fluting, addition of barrel bands & sling mounts, etc.

    Experience with a 19mm .416 barrel for R8?

If you’re talking factory barrels, I had one in 300WM. Never would have gotten it for what they cost (2.5x what the standard weight costs), but it was already on a gun. It shot excellent, all of the factory barrels are phenomenal. That $3750 price tag though, I just can’t get there from here on...

Just the factory Barnes loads. I’ll use the brass and load up some heavier bullets but I haven’t narrowed it down yet. I’ve got all the dies and powder standing by.

One cartridge to hunt dangerous game for the rest of your life and it can't be a 375, what are you going with?

Heym Express 416 Rigby. Reason: I already own it. The NECG-built CZ or Blaser R8 in 375 H&H would have been my first choice had it been within the rules though!

    New Lipseys M77 .35 Whelen

    Good Gun Deals This Week

The Scheels in Johnstown CO has two Remington 798s (Zastava Mausers), one 375 H&H, one 458WM. Both have Leupold VX3 3-9 scopes and are in excellent condition for $899 each. Seemed like a decent deal, they will ship them out. They also had a nearly-new 458WM RSM for $1799, they've had it for...

    Blaser R8 Owner in USA

Yeah, they’ve got a good team in San Antonio. I bought my 404, F16, and R8 directly from them at the showroom. I should have grabbed more 404 barrels when they came in. I’m not sure why the 505 went back to a one-piece bolt, the interchangeable bolt heads on the 404 were very neat and plenty...

    Blaser R8 Owner in USA

I have an R93 in 7mm Mag, an R8 in .375, and an R8S in .308 fully built out. I’ve got a few spare R8 barrels also. The .308 is probably the most accurate center fire rifle I own. I’m very happy with the system and if you look around you can get a better deal on them, but they’re not cheap by...

Optic for Mauser Single Square Bridge

It will work fine on the rear bridge. I actually prefer them further back. The dot doesn’t care if it’s against your eye or on the muzzle, relative dot size to the window it’s projected in is all that changes.

    Rolex- the stupidest, lamest company

Yes, the grey market relationship with ADs is probably crooked. Nobody has a gun to anyone’s head: find a dealer that isn’t scummy and wait your turn, or pay the convenience tax and go grey. Supply and demand just is what it is. He waited his turn, paid his money, and is doing what he chooses...

My best friend bought a Daytona for $16k (MSRP) off the waiting list (9 mos.) Tuesday and sold it for $31,500 today. Midway USA

Most firearms parts moved to EAR control a couple years ago and out of ITAR. It’s no less restrictive as an individual but it is easier to get licenses from Dept of Commerce versus the State Dept. Barnes 400 grain hollow pt. .416 rigby

The performance of the TSX has been pretty well documented as positive. Anecdotally I’ve used about 6 different factory loads using the TSX from 5.56 70gr to 470NE 500gr with excellent results on everything I ever hit with them. They perform very well when used on an appropriate target.

The real pitfall of Rolex service is if they open the case they’re doing a full service. Need a marker reattached? Full service. Replace dial? Full service. Regulate? Full service. That’s why I use Bob, plus he doesn’t play any parts swap games or ask to trade you a new watch for a...

    Rolex- the stupidest, lamest company

I have had my Rolex covered in blood more times than I can count. I literally wear it for everything. It’s a stainless steel tool watch, blood isn’t going to hurt it one bit. The implication that those of us that like a nice watch aren’t working class guys says more about you than us. I work...

I have my Rolex Submariner because of the Special Forces heritage, just like my Randall Model 1. Dangerous Game riflescope for my .450 build

I have about two dozen LPVO scopes and worked on the development of a number in my old job, and I put the Swarovski Z8i on my Heym 416 and NECG 375. It’s the right scope for this particular job. The Nightforce NX8 is a good option but the reticle selection isn’t great for DG hunting. It is the...
