Sentimental reasons. I carry a knife my cousin made 50 years ago. It has skinned animals and been with me everywhere since. When I went to Africa, it came with me. I passed it to the skinners and asked if they would use it, if even just a little, on each animal. I am not a very sentimental...
Very nice! I, too, bought a .22 for squirrel hunting about a month ago. I bought the Tikka T1x because it comes as a left hand bolt. I am very happy with it!
I would suggest a rangefinder that does ballistic calculations, such as the sig, or gunwerks BR2. You input your ballistic profile beforehand and it will give you a dial up in MOA or MIL.
I realize they push the budget a bit, but make a world of difference when you are shooting that 700 yard...
I really enjoyed your report Sir! Nice pictures and good shooting! I hope to return to Africa for a 2nd hunt and I definitely need a picture of me pointing at a croc over my shoulder.
As a fellow lefty, I am quite interested in your rifle. My guess is a Tikka with a Boyd's stock? I am a big fan...
My only trip to Africa was for Plains game in the Eastern Cape and was incredible. However I felt I missed out on a couple of things: Hunting by watching trackers work their magic, and seeing, hearing elephant, lions, Buffalo, hippos in the wild. I wouldn't necessarily need to hunt them...
Well, since you asked......:A Big Hello: I was in an artillery unit in the 70s. One Monday, after a long weekend and little sleep, my buddy and I climbed up on top of a deuce and a half with a plywood box and fell asleep. The truck was parked about 20 yards directly to the side of the nearest...
I took my 7mm rem. mag to Africa, and shot 8 animals to include Kudu, Gemsbok, Blue and Black Wildebeest. I used Barnes TSX 160s and they did a great job. Just my 2 cents worth.
Thank you! Both the Zebra and Gemsbok are excellent examples of what I am looking for. I find it refreshing from the standard shoulder mount and truly beautiful.
Thank you. Almost exactly what I am thinking of except the hide would completely cover the wooden part so you only see the Zebra. Now I have something to go on. I saw a Blue Wildebeest mounted like that and it was exceptional. I would love to have one done that way. I just found one example...
Hi All,
I am hoping someone can help me out with finding examples of a wall mount. I have no idea if there is a name for this particular style. Usually it is a Zebra or a Blue Wildebeest in wall mount like a shoulder mount with a full turn of the head, but instead of a plaque, the hide...
Merry Christmas Bob and Gina!! Congratulations on your marriage! I have thoroughly enjoyed the adventures of the both of you. May you have many years of happiness!
My vote is for the Tikka. I took a Tikka T3x in 7 mag to Africa. I shot 8 animal, including Kudu. Wildebeest, Oryx and Zebra. I used 160 grain Barnes bullets. It performed flawlessly, and I never notice recoil when shooting at game. I did put an aftermarket stock on it just because I like...
Thanks for the video Philip! I brought my "Jim Shockey" sticks to Africa, and they worked well for me! Extra points to you for the 7 mag Tikka with 160 Barnes bullets. :A Big Hello::D Beers: Exactly what I brought on my Safari. Very accurate rifle, and solid bullets. The Trigger sticks worked...
Iron sights are great, and I loved them up until old age caught up with me. Now, either the rear sight, the front sight, or the target is blurry. I had to surrender. A scope or red dot of some sort is essential now. I have a Trijicon accupoint and absolutely love the bright green dot. In low...
Thank you IdaRam, I appreciate the input. I am looking. I am going to look at Idaho, but seeing as the deadline is upon me, I am going to try and figure out Wyoming tonight. I have a feeling Idaho will be where I end up.
I have my eye on a couple of units. I just need to figure out if there...
Hi everyone. Unfortunately, my planned Utah hunt is not happening this year so I am suddenly in a mad scramble to find an alternative at the last minute.
I am just asking for a little help with what to apply for and where to go. I am hoping to go with my friend for either a cow elk or a combo...
Welcome aboard! This is a great place to learn and get all your questions answered. Exactly a year ago, I was in the middle of my first trip to Africa. It was awesome and I think of it every day. I hope you you have as much fun as I did.
Awesome Quote! Thank you. When I was a boy, I convinced my younger brother to pee on an electric fence! :A Big Hello: I still chuckle when I think of it, and he still holds a grudge!
The 6.5x47 Lapua is the most accurate rifle I have owned. It just seems so easy to find an accurate load. It routinely shoots 1/2 moa or better. I realize it may be a fluke, but I shot a 300 yard 3-shot group of .3xx inches, covered it with a dime. Even old, blind squirrels get an acorn sometimes!

Oh my goodness! I laughed, I chortled, I loved your story. @Just Gina , I loved your previous report, but you really outdid yourself this time!! So funny. You are unapologetically you and not afraid to let the world know. Michael, excellent writing as well. My hat is off to you for a...
Major Khan, I have thoroughly enjoyed your writings. So, in the interest of helping:
1983 - Remington 700 7mm mag. I chambered a round after getting out of the truck, blowing a hole in my tire. I thought I must have had my finger on the trigger accidentally, so it was an accident. The...
How beautiful! I am still waiting for my taxidermy to be finished, and I hope they look as nice as yours. I especially love the Springbok. I didn't take one when I was there simply because I was pinching pennies. Now, I regret how it is going to cost me round trip airfare and a whole new...
Welcome. I made my first trip last May. My "Once in a lifetime" trip. I was 58, and hunted Plains game. Now I have the bug, and am trying to find a way to afford a Cape Buffalo hunt....... I hope you enjoy the website, planning, and your own trip!
Thank you for your wonderful writing. I am thoroughly enjoying your story. It is fascinating and keeps me coming back for more. I would ask you to write a book, but I don't want to wait that long!
