Nyala, Waterbuck & Red Lechwe Hunting Package With 3S Safaris US$7,200

I can't do it next year, but I'll have to see if you're offering something similar for April 2020. Any of the Kobus species are at the top of my list. (I spent 10 years wanting to hunt waterbuck before I got a chance last year.) A chance for two of them plus a nyala would be great.

Please Recommend Taxidermist in or near Bloemfontein

My experience with taxidermists is very limited, but I was pretty impressed with Game Over taxidermy in Kimberley. ( http://www.gameovertaxidermy.co.za ) As I said, i don't have much for comparison, but I was pleased, especially with my waterbuck, which was the main goal and highlight of my hunt.

.308 Winchester for Eland and Argali Sheep

I feel like I have to say *something*, but I have no particular wisdom to offer...

    Trophies what to keep

Like nearly everyone else here said, skip the backskins unless you have a specific plan for them. I don't really regret doing it, (they weren't *that* much extra) but I have no idea what I'll end up doing with them, if I ever do anything at all. They just sit on top of the gunsafe. A gemsbok...

Planning and daydreaming about a second hunt

That was what my wife suggested, since a lechwe or kudu wouldn't be that different from the hunt we did last year, and what I'm leaning toward. But, given the extra considerations of bringing family, I won't rule out doing a smaller plains game hunt, and then a buffalo hunt on my own later.

Planning and daydreaming about a second hunt

Dead set? No. But I do enjoy walking past my waterbuck (and the others, too) every day. So the default is to keep the trophies. However, I doubt I could swing an exportable elephant, but I'd still love to hunt one, even if I can't bring home a trophy. But you've got me curious. What are you...

Planning and daydreaming about a second hunt

Limcroma, yeah, I figured it was inevitable. :) (And, like I said, I don't mind at all.) What I'm hoping to get out of the post is something along the lines of, "have you considered X?" where X is something I definitely hadn't considered and didn't know enough to ask. ("I never considered...

Dagnabbit, I can't find how to edit my last post. Sorry about that **Shootist**. I blame auto-correct on my phone.

Planning and daydreaming about a second hunt

I've been doing some daydreaming about another hunt, after an absolutely wonderful hunt with Katzke Safaris (near Douglas, ZAF, report here) last April, and, well, what are hobby forums for if not for public navel gazing? I'm a ways out from the next hunt, so that means I have plenty of time to...

    308 Winchester Caliber Opinions...

Shockingly, I've used it a bit. :E Angel: I shoot a few thousand rounds of 155 grain .308 each year (and a few hundred heavier in F/TR). When I hunted in South Africa this year, I only brought my target rifle, and borrowed a rifle for the hunt. I was offered a 375H&H or a suppressed R700 in...

    Shooting a 416 Rigby

I'm no big bore expert, but one thing I've learned from target rifle shooting is that dry firing is one of the best ways to learn to manage recoil once you have a sound position. You learn to operate the trigger smoothly since a jerk or a flinch isn't hidden by recoil. Even better is...

SOUTH AFRICA: Katzke Safaris April 2017

I actually read my post all at once... and my high school English teacher would have strung me up for turning that in. And I can no longer edit it. So... my apologies. There are folks posting here for whom English is a third or later language who write better than I did. :-) Kowas, thanks for...

SOUTH AFRICA: Katzke Safaris April 2017

There was a bit of a mix up with the schedule, so none of the US team placed well in the grand aggregate. But discounting that... I was pleased. And we had some late cancellations (life and work happens...) so we didn't bring the level of team we could have. But... It's a great match and a great...

SOUTH AFRICA: Katzke Safaris April 2017

And another lesson learned: my follow up shots, almost universally, hit the center of what I could see, and not necessarily the vitals. Hopefully, staring at the shot placement pictures will drill that into my brain.

SOUTH AFRICA: Katzke Safaris April 2017

Day of the zebra, continued... After loading up the gemsbok in the truck, we decide to head over to the area where we saw the waterbuck. The zebra is assumed to be a lost cause. I'm bummed, because I hate to lose an animal, and, if I'm honest, even more than that, I want to find out where my...

SOUTH AFRICA: Katzke Safaris April 2017

I went on my first hunting safari this spring outside of Douglas, South Africa (not too terribly far from Kimberley) with Katzke Safaris. And I had a blast. I had originally planned to hunt with Johann Fourie, a member of the South African Palma team, who was killed in a car accident shortly...
