If one wants true 1x and still want to have high magnification at the other end I think that Steiners New 1-10x24 might be worth a look.

For myself I went with a Swarovski z8i 1,7-13,3x42 for my incoming custom .375 H&H since I feel that I...
I have grown with Leupold scopes but nowdays I use Swarovski, Schmidt & Bender and Zeiss, my favorite brand beeing Swarovski both for their optical quality and their customer service/guarantee handling.
If you are interested in importing a rifle from France I just saw this, only a stock take down however:

We are having the same problem here in Sweden, unless you want to go the second hand route there are none or at least very few offerings of factory built CRF-rifles to buy. I decided to go the custom rifle route and ended up orderring one from a german gunsmith. If I opted for factory made the...
Beutiful gun, I really like animal engraving on shotguns, it feels like it fits better on them then on rifles, were I am more fond of just scroll engraving.
I dont know unfortunately, but they do have a nice return policy so perhaps you could order several rings to see which fits. However a better option would probably be to take the question to your gunsmith, he probably know how to choose the right one.
I dont know about color cased hardened ones, but the regular ones can for example be bought at Optics Trade, they ship to Sweden so I bet they do to Finland aswell. Unsure about which rings you need, but perhaps this could be a starting point...
There are lower rings available, I think that the reason for the high ones on the rifle in the picture is due to the fact that the gunsmith for some reason opted to keep the original flag safety.
For exactly this reason I ordered my custom rifle with a M70 type safety, the Recknagel Secura...
First time I went hunting was with my dad at the tender age of 1 years old but then only in a baby carrier backpack when he was hunting capercaille. Learned to shot with BB guns and .22 LR around 7 years old. Real hunting I started with several years later by accompanying my dad and paternal...
They are, but they do look nice when case colored, I was considering that when I ordered my custom M98 .375 H&H but in the end I opted for silver nitrated rings with engraving instead.
This was my inspiration when thinking about going with case colored swing mounts and rings.
It sure looks great. I just ordered a custom M98 Magnum with a similar recoil pad, but I believe it will be a Pachmayr Old English in my case since the NECG ones does not seems to be available here in Europe.
A truly beutiful rifle, I also like that the open sights are regulated to sensible distances for the calibre and the kind of hunting it was made for. To often one sees open sights regulated to several hundred meters when the caliber or rifle is made for much less.
Unless something has changed really recently the Krieghoff Hubertus does not have the same locking system as Blaser and Merkel does. It is also made of steel rather then alloy and thus heavier which actually improves its shooting qualities.
It is easier to shot with a 2,7 kg Krieghoff then a...
I had the Merkel K5 earlier which is similar to the K95, the big problem with both of them in my opinion is that the lock of the rifles are the so called Franz Jäger Kippblockverschluß. Which while very strong also has the added sideeffect of making the brass somewhat hard to take out due to the...
One possible downside is that the great field of view is achieved by going below 1x in magnification, have never tried one myself but if it is anything like the regular z8i 1-8x24 it is probably a great riflescope.
Muzzle up, mostly because we are required to keep them in gun safe by law here in Sweden and the gun safe I have does not lend itself very well to storing them the other way.
It was a good video and part of my decision making process for choosing the z8i 1,7-13,3x42 over a more traditional choice aswell, so thank you for doing that video.
For anyone who is googling for the link I have it here:
I see, that is my thinking aswell, I have just commissioned a do-it-all rifle for myself in .375 H&H to be equipped with a Swarovski z8i 1,7-13,3x42 with just that reticle. Hopefully this will be able to handle all domestic hunting (moose, brown bear and wild boars) aswell as future trips to...
Aside from his inability to aim and hit he also seems to be extremely bad at handling the rifle when it comes to reloading it, I saw the same thing in that buffalo hunting movie of him:unsure:
It is also fascinating and very sad that he manages to miss that poor elephant several times even...
I believe that the Leica Magnus 1-6,3x24 has the widest field of view with 43,2 meters, but the Swarovski z8i 1-8x24 is not far behind if one wants 1-8 instead.
The question for me is why the general recommendation seems to be that one should buy a life long supply of cartridges from the same batch as the double rifle has been regulated for...
I have deduced that this is because the regulation will change between different batches of ammunition and...
Here is one, dont know if it is "magnificent" but it do look nice.

The action of the Shikari sure does not look anything like the action of a Chapuis, perhaps there is a action maker of some sort that supplies actions for artisan rifle makers in Belgium and Rigby is buying their actions in the white? That would explain the rumour that the components were made...
When I changed the scope on mine I had to try like ten different powders until I found a load which regulated...some 200 shots later. It started to spread real bad due to the new scope (z8i 1-8x24) compared to the old Leupold (1,5-4x20), probably since the new one was 40 percent heavier.
Also I...
They have several models in 1-6 at least in Europe, the cheaper one beeing the Leica Amplus 1-6x24, intermediate beeing the Fortis 1-6x24 and the most expensive is the Magnus 1-6,3x24.
Apparently the regulation is set for less then 10 seconds between shots from each barrel. If it is longer between shots the unfired barrel is in a different "place" in its recoil arc if I understood it correctly :giggle:
The double rifles do have their quirks, I have actually more or less lost patience completly with mine. It works perfectly as long as you shoot both barrels within 10 seconds. But if the follow up shot comes later then 10 seconds it spreads a lot. This fall I shot a moose which fell over but...
Is the trigger guard hitting your finger with its back? If so this seems to be a usual solution that I sometimes have seen on both double rifles and shotguns: https://shotgunsportsmagazine.com/shop/product/bumper-buster-trigger-guard-rubber-corners
They sure do, if it was not for the financial requirements for doing so, I would probably go all in for either Rigby or Westley Richards when it comes to both bolt action and double rifles :)
It looks to be more on the understated side compared to the coin finished version, especially around the fences, a little less is more approach, perhaps more in line with how they looked back in the day.
My longest waiting time on a gun so far is just above 10 months but the maker sent me progress pictures regularly, that however just seemed to make the wait seem longer :giggle:
