    .223 for Steinbok, Duiker, Klipspringer?

300 Blackout would be perfect for a dedicated T10 rifle IMO. You could even bring a suppressor along to keep it really quiet, if that makes any difference to you. Those Barnes 110gr TAC factory loads do around 2350 fps and are deadly on whitetail deer. I’ve taken several 200 plus pound bucks...

Article on heavier vs lighter for caliber bullet penetration

@michael458 , one thing I did notice, and can’t believe you went along with. Some of the bullets you helped design are 375 grain. You couldn’t get them to go up another grain to 376? It amazes me that you had any part of any bullet that has 375 in the name! LOL! You’ve been a great help to me as...

    Which Elephant Rifle and cartridge?

While the 458 Win Mag may not be many people’s first choice anymore, I hardly see how anyone can argue against its effectiveness. With today’s ammo and components, it will do all that’s needed.

    Which Elephant Rifle and cartridge?

I have used a Blaser R8 in 375 H&H with a Nikon 1-4x20 scope to hunt tuskless elephant. It worked very well for the side brain shot. I used CEB 300gr solids at 2550 fps. I got complete penetration through the skull and out the neck on the far side. I’m going back after a bull ele in 2025. Will...

    Any 41 magnum shooters?

I had a couple Ruger Blackhawks in 41 mag back in the day. I always liked the milder recoil of the 41. But in my younger days I had to have the biggest and the baddest, so I traded them for 44s of some sort I’m sure. Then came the obsession with the Freedom Arms 454, and all hope was lost. Now...

The Greatest Hunter I Ever Knew Has Passed

On 4/24/24, the greatest hunter I ever knew passed away. This was not just any hunter, he was truly gifted as an all around outdoorsman. He was my dad. As I grew up, and grew to know him as the man he was, it was not until later in life that I realized just how special he was. Sometimes...

    Ron Spomer and Phil Shoemaker

Yes, I enjoyed this podcast. Phil is such a laid back nice guy. I bet he’d be fun to hunt with. Brown Bear hunts are ridiculously expensive these days. You can easily go hunt Cape buffalo and tuskless elephant in Zim for less money. But I’d still love to do another brown bear hunt, once I get...

    Fluted or standard barrel ?

I’ve only owned one fluted R8 barrel. It was a semiweight 375 H&H barrel that came on a Jaeger that I once owned. All others have been either standard 17mm or Safari weight barrels with no flutes. I think it’s ok to have flutes on a heavier contour barrel if you want the added stiffness of the...

    My first 416 finally!

The Ruger rifles definitely are hard on stocks. I’ve heard and seen many issues with stocks cracking at the tang. Even the laminated stocks give problems in this area. For ultimate reliability I’d look into a synthetic stock, such as HS Precision. They aren’t very pretty, but they are way...

Anybody removed the iron sights from a Blaser R8 barrel?

From what I’ve read, their sights aren’t simply screwed on like most sights. I think they have a threaded stud that protrudes from the barrel into the sight. But a quick call or email to Blaser would answer that question

Blaser R8 - Too Many Parts or Just A Stupid Operator?

I recently purchased yet ANOTHER R8. This one being a standard professional in 300 Win Mag. I believe the 458,416,375/ 300 Win Mag approach is a very sound one. I realize that a single stock and bolt assembly would/could work with all of these calibers, but for some reason, I prefer to have...
