I am doing some research on the chronology of the leica geovid, specifically the ones with the mono bridge design. But I can’t find information about wich one is newer and older. The one without leters I understand is the oldest one the BRF model, and the one with two buttons the newest, but between the geovid hd, geovid r and geovid hd-r wich one is newer and which one is older?

I have found a picture with the chronology, but some of them are missing in the picture.

Great project.

Tina and I both have the Leica Geovids purchased about a year apart.

Hers were purchased about 2 years ago from the local Cabela's, measures in yards only, and has the square buttons. Mine were purchased last year a few months before our Safari and can read in both yards and meters and has the round buttons. Other than that, they look identical.

Does Tina’s binos have any letters with the magnification x diameter numbers?

Both are Geovids 10X42's.

Hers will give accurate readings out to maybe 900 yards, mine would give repeated readings out to nearly 1700 yards. We were trying to spot Klipspringer in a rocky hillside in Pilanesberg when we really put this to the test.

So they both only have the numbers without the “r”,”hd” or “hd-r” written, like this one but 10x42, right?

I can post pictures of both the binoculars and their factory boxes when I get home from work this afternoon.

Both have the R designation, but as far as I can tell the primary difference is the round button on mine vs the square button on hers. The ability on mine to switch from yards to meters. If I'm correct, yards or meters used to be two different product numbers, now you can scroll through the programming to change from units of measure in the new model.

I think the Lazer and detection system has also been improved from 1200 yards on hers, to 2,000 on mine.

My original RF binos were the 10x42R that were introduced in 2016. I believe I picked them up in 2018 before our first safari. Our PH was so impressed with them that we negotiated them as part of his tip.

Of course, this opened the door for me to upgrade to a newer version and I picked up two sets (His & Hers) of the 10x42 HD-B 3000 that I believe were introduced in 2019 and are absent from your list above. Still incredibly happy with these.

Added a Leica Rangemaster 3500.com for as my lightweight & compact optics in 2023.

Hi Joshlee0518 (please let me know if you are fine being addressed like that),

Thought I would drop you a PM. It is super exciting to plan a hunt and we are more than happy to assist you. Have you given any thought yet to which species you would like to take?

What do you hunt usually and which weapons/calibers are you using?

Look forward to swapping experiences and ideas.

Happy hunting - Daniel
