Superb customer service at Savage Arms

Tina has been tossing around the idea of a larger caliber rifle for Elk size game and called Savage Customer Service to see if they would build another model 111 Lady Hunter with a few tweaks. They transferred her to a nice lady named Effie Sullivan. Tina thought she had heard that name before...

    BRNO 602 modifications

I can see that. I've had rifles with safeties that moved forward to fire, others that moved to the rear. Some with crossbolt or tang safeties. I'm fine with all of them. The set trigger is a non problem in my opinion, as the rifles came new with a curved trigger in the box that was easily...

Why The 30-06 Has Been rendered OBSOLETE

I remember the first person that told me the 30-06 is old, slow and obsolete was the same guy that was scared to shoot his new lightweight 7mm Eargasplittenloudeboomer magnum.

    BRNO 602 modifications

Bullseye! Although CZ has never published any production numbers for the BRNO 602 or CZ550 in large African calibers, it's a safe bet they produced more in a month that many smaller builders turned out in their entire run. CZ produced these rifles at a decent price when almost everyone else...

    first Safari

David, welcome to AH. If you can make it, attending the SCI show in Nashville would be worth your while. We also have a dinner get together of Africa Hunting forum members where you can meet many of the folks you chat with here. Hang around because there are some really good guys here that will...

.458 Mannlicher Schoenauer ( from Rhodesia era ) available for sale in South Africa

What a lot of the factories hid in the fine print of their ballistic tables was that they obtained their numbers from 30" test barrels. The production rifle with a 22" barrel produced far less. This was even more so of the super high velocity cartridges of that era.

.458 Mannlicher Schoenauer ( from Rhodesia era ) available for sale in South Africa

Interesting list of calibers that these rifles were available in. During that time period, I'd have thought many European and American calibers would sell better than the 257 WBY and 264 WIN.

Shoot with one eye open, and one closed, or both open?

If you ever attend any 10 meter rifle or pistol event, most shooters are very relaxed. The game is to use as little muscular tension as possible. At the German Clubs I shoot with, it's more about the fellowship and food, so everyone is nonchalant about the entire affair.

Shoot with one eye open, and one closed, or both open?

Not to be a smart alec, but we don't walk around all day with one eye closed. lol Both eyes are open until a target is identified and the rifle lined up for the shot. When my right eye is lined up with the scope or sights, I close my left eye, or use a blinder of some type. It can be an opaque...

Shoot with one eye open, and one closed, or both open?

Both eyes open till it's time to execute the shot, then close the left eye. I'm right eye dominant, but keeping both eyes open I'll shoot to the left of everything. When I shoot Olympic 10 meter Air Rifle and Air pistol, I use a blinder on my non dominant eye to reduce eye strain and a...

Bullet tip deformation under recoil - lesson learned

Yes. Any hollow point can have it's performance severely reduced by bending the bullet nose inward. The older TSX in small calibers were probably more susceptible to this than the larger calibers, thus the introduction of the TTSX.
