Noticed a lot of shotguns here. I'm the same. Remington 870 in 20 gauge. Accounted for more quail, pheasant, chukkar and dove than I can count, as well as a few rabbits and the odd pest around the homestead.
I think i heard somewhere that, in addition to his reply to Wayne before the scene that people would hate him, but he'd be a hero in Berkely, Dern also said the scene had turned out to make him a good living playing psychos and weasels. Not sure either is true, but they make a good story.
I just founded this video the other day. Good stuff. Most of my students probably wouldn't recognize JW today, but I wish I had seen this when I took firearms safety at the ripe old age of 12.
I've added the '06 and dropped the .243 since posting this. Also had and got rid of an AR in 5.56. I have a good .22LR, but I think I'd still like a good .22WMR in a lever or bolt.
Not a fan of .243. I've owned a couple, but I found them too heavy for light work and too light for heavy work.
I prefer the .30-06 over .308, but I think that's because my dad used an '06.
I find my own dislike, rational or irrational toward particular types of guns. I don't like AR or AK...
Have an orthopedic appointment on Jan. 22 to talk about a new knee - it was worse than I thought. Still working on the exercises and weight loss with a plan to hunt Africa in 2028. As always, we shall see.
Ruger (I think) used to have a heavy rifle (Hawkeye African?) in .223. A rifle, identical to your dangerous game rifle in an inexpensive, soft recoiling caliber would be the answer if you could find or get someone to build/modify
I've got a CZ550 American in .375 H&H and a 557 Carbine in .30-06. Felt recoil is about the same. Kind of stiff, but a trip to the range isn't a frightening prospect.
On the other hand, I've got an H&R single shot 12 gauge that beats you up even with the lightest loads. I didn't notice it when...
Spam is available in sealed plastic packets as well as cans. It's a lot easier to carry in the field than cans. I don't keep it in the house, though. Dirty Moore, Chef Boyardee and Hormel make up most of my canned rations at home.
