Welcome aboard Lionheart! This is a great group. You'll like it here.
Formerly from the peach state myself. In fact I'll be down that way in a couple weeks to visit family.
Well now, if we're talking winning the lotto, and it probably needs to be a big one:
.275 Rigby in a Rigby boltgun of course
.375 H&H in a H&H boltgun
.470 NE in a fine double, maker TBD
If I'm stuck with my cornbread and buttermilk budget:
.30-06 Ruger M77 (already own it)
.375 H&H...
Not sure of all, but the rear sights are mounted differently, the front sling swivel is barrel mounted on the SE (keeping it further away during recoil I've read) and the SE is about a half-pound heavier.
Thanks for all the replies. Lots of great information.
I haven't seen any on the shelf. Partly because I live in a fairly small town and partially because I haven't started looking because I was sure the quality/reputation of the new mod. 70s.
Now that I do I'll start looking around...
I am thinking about a CRF .375 H&H and am looking at the Winchester Mod 70 Safari Express. Mainly because it is readily available in the US, priced decently and, well, the Winchester legacy.
Thoughts on the current production guns - function, fit/finish, durability, off the shelf accuracy...
Love those lever guns! A 99 in .300 Savage has been on my wish list for a long time, but then so are a LOT of others. :giggle:
It looks like a Turnbull to me as well. Is this the episode, 375er?
