If you pull the bullet on a .22LR and pour out the powder you can see the amount of priming compound. I've seen a lot of failure to fire with most brands of .22 of recent years. Purely speculation, but I have often wondered whether all the main companies ditched quality control during the years...
Very nice. I normally have my spare rounds in an MTM box. Nowhere near the look and feel of leather and potentialy a lot more noise. I definately like your solution.
@Carnivore hunter Yes, we can own 454 Casulls in Australia.
A handgun suitable for big game hunting will be a large and heavy piece. A tool for the specialist handgun hunter, not something that is taken along "just in case'.
Africa is a large continent made up of several countries, each of which has their own firearm laws. As such there is no answer to the question as to what firearms are allowed in "Africa". If however you mean are double action revolvers allowed in South Africa, then the answer is YES - providing...
@CBH Australia your 375H&H will get the job done, but upsizing to a 458 Lott would give you a bit extra margin for Murphy.
Given you're in Oz, forget about A-Frames, Bear Claws etc. They just won't be available when you need them. Look at Atomic29 or Woodleigh Hydros - both great choices and...
The diference in rim diameters is more than "a couple of thou". Try 11 thou, 405 Win = 0.543" vs 400 H&H + 0.532". May come down to individual bolt face. Worse case scenario would be a new bolt. Sounds like a great project. The only thing wrong with the 400 H&H is that it came out a century too...
CEB make a nice all coper 300g handgun solid. However, because of the lower density of coper vs lead, the CEB projectile will take up a lot more room in the case and thus significantly limitting the amount of romm for your powder charge. The net result in my gun was that a max load using the...
If you're set on using monos then going with Lott is a better answer. The all copper projectiles are much longer than equivalent weight and therefore take up much more space in the case.
As far as twist rate goes I don't think you'll have a problem with the standard 1:14" twist. I use 450g...
Hodgdon don't make powder, they are a distributor who re-brand propellants made by other companies. Thales (ADI) made a small batch some months ago and I scored a 2Kg tub. Since then they have made a couple of small runs of their new pistol powders as well as a tiny batch of AR2205 (IMR4227)...
