rechamber my model 1917 enfield 405 win to 400 H&H?

The diference in rim diameters is more than "a couple of thou". Try 11 thou, 405 Win = 0.543" vs 400 H&H + 0.532". May come down to individual bolt face. Worse case scenario would be a new bolt. Sounds like a great project. The only thing wrong with the 400 H&H is that it came out a century too...

Chapuis double rifle - UGEX ejector

Sounds like a couple of happy Cleaver's customers. Have to admit that their special price on the Chapuis is very tempting.

    454 Casull on Buffalo

CEB make a nice all coper 300g handgun solid. However, because of the lower density of coper vs lead, the CEB projectile will take up a lot more room in the case and thus significantly limitting the amount of romm for your powder charge. The net result in my gun was that a max load using the...

    Twist rate + 458 Lott

If you're set on using monos then going with Lott is a better answer. The all copper projectiles are much longer than equivalent weight and therefore take up much more space in the case. As far as twist rate goes I don't think you'll have a problem with the standard 1:14" twist. I use 450g...

    Subsonic 458 win mag

Correction: The Trailboss was in a 1.5Kg tub. The other pistol powders APS950 & APS650 were in 2Kg tubs.

    Subsonic 458 win mag

Hodgdon don't make powder, they are a distributor who re-brand propellants made by other companies. Thales (ADI) made a small batch some months ago and I scored a 2Kg tub. Since then they have made a couple of small runs of their new pistol powders as well as a tiny batch of AR2205 (IMR4227)...

    400 H&H magnum. Any thoughts?

I think you need to revisit your assumptions on action length requirements. The loaded length for .400 H&H is actualy longer than the 404J (OAL 3.550" vs 3.530"). A Magnum length action would be preferred. Aside from that I agree that it's a great cartridge. Had it been invented 100 years ago it...

    Lightweight Ammo Case For Flying

The IATA guidlines may say one thing, but each airline sets their own policy. From the Qantas website: Also note that for most of your journey the ammo box can be inside your checked luggage. If you have an internal flight in South Africa, the ammo box flys as a separate piece of luggage and...

    Lightweight Ammo Case For Flying

Check the rules for the airlines you're flying on. Some state 5kg of ammunition, some stipulate 5kg gross (including packaging). ps. I've never had my ammo weighed, but that doesn't mean it won't happen.

    MOZ Terrorist Attack..

Previously, the various incidents I had heard of were around the coastal areas, in particularly around the centers servicing the oil companies. This latest attack is much further inland and appears to have deliberatly targeted internnational hunters. That may indicate a change of targetting...

    Desert Eagle .429 DE

Do any of our members have experience in loading for the 429 DE, particularly heavy for calibre projectiles such as 300gr XTPs etc. In the early days, the cartrdige was a purely in house product with 200gr and 240 gr offerings. Since then the cartridge has become SAAMI approved and recently...

Airline recommendations - Australia to South Africa with rifles

Unless things have changed, the basic options are to fly by Qantas from Sydney, or to fly by Virgin/South Africa Airlines from Perth. I've never heard of a possitive experience from anyone taking firearms through Perth - Lets just say things are diferent in Perth (think Police State) especially...
