My wife and sister in law. They are not great conversationalist but hey, actions speak louder than words and they get their points across with great aplomb. FN

    Top 5 plains game?

Bushbuck - iconic, always a challenge and a lovely looking animal. Common duiker - not a usual answer but I love these little guys. Usually hard to get close to and, depending how high the cover is, can be a tricky and slow approach. Warthog - quintessentially African and every PG hunt needs...

Some odd mounts from my taxidermist

Reminds me of some of the more weird and wonderful taxidermy from the Victorian era. If weird and whimsical float your boat. Do check out the attached link and if ever one finds oneself in Split on a damp and dismal day and needs uplifting, then visit this place. https://froggyland.net/ FN

Ummm, looks like smorgasbord of swollen mesenteric glands, nephrotic kidneys and a fine vintage of torrential dysentery. Not unlike dinner with the in-laws really lol Seriously though, foods like that just aren’t the least popular but can be so so tasty. FN

A New Offering Of .375 Holland & Holland Magnum Ammunition Has Been Released On The Market

I’ve found S&B to be largely good ammo and generally pretty consistent which, given the price point, is a credit to them. However, despite that consistency, their bullet choice and associated construction would not make it an ideal bed fellow when facing DG…..which is a shame as they really do...

7mm/08 for Plains Game? Good or Bad?

I love my 7mm-08 but I won’t travel it. I load my own cartridges so shooting at home is fine. But I’ll only go on my international travels with my .308 and/or .375H&H I’ve arrived in Johannesburg with my lovely 7mm-08 to find my ammunition was still in Heathrow. No chance of finding a factory...

    Big Bores for small things

I usually take my .375H&H double with iron sights for a couple of warthog/impala/sprinbok prior to buffalo. Compared to buffalo which, although very tense, are generally not particularly challenging shots, I love the smaller stuff. FN

Double rifles with stainless steel barrels

His majesty King George V was noted as saying whilst looking at a hammer less shotgun ‘a gun without hammers is like a spaniel without ears’ One wonders what he would have commented seeing a shiny double FN

    Best Unsuccessful Hunt Ever

To be honest, for me, every hunt is about enjoying everything; every sense heightened, every sighting analysed, every gust of wind checked, every approach calculated, every extraction considered, every campfire enjoyed. This is the 9/10 soul food. The freezer fill is the 1/10. FN

    First Rigby Playdate

All that rifle is going to do is cause you untold days of anguish and anxiety - best be rid of it! As part of my 'care in the community' policy I'll take it off your hands and, whilst taking the heavy burden of ownership upon my own shoulders, it will free you. Seriously though, what a lovely...

1 MOA accuracy less common than you think ?

Surely for most of us it’s where the first shot lands from a cold gun, off sticks or nestling against a tree. I really don’t recall ever bench rest shooting anything. FN
