My Highland Stalker in 30-06 love the Barnes ammo with 180g TTSX. Shoots under an inch at 100m.
I have taken everything from deer, donkeys, wild dogs to a scrub bull with this load and it worked perfectly. Barnes also loads a bit hotter so it shoots as flat as the Federal 165g tipped trophy...
Great story. I’m looking forward to seeing photos of the old bull.
With how much goes into the dugga boy award it needs a hard copy book. I pick up my copy most times I’m in my buffalo room
You’ll get away with it sometimes but not worth the hassle when you don’t. I’ve been pulled off flights twice. One time heading home from Joburg and the case had been in my bino harness for the last 4 international flights since I left Aus!
No sling so barrel band doesn’t matter. I ran a 1-5x scope on my first hunt. When I got home immediately replaced it with a red dot. I don’t see the point in shooting a buffalo outside 50m and a red dot it the best thing for close range
After 2 years my Cape buffalo dip and pack has arrived in Australia! Now I need to decide on a pedestal for it. Google search was surprisingly uninspiring so looking for some ideas. Please show me what you did with your Cape Buffalo

In 2023 I was traveling to SA for a Buffalo hunt on the Limpopo. There were some flight delays and we missed a connection. I had AirTags in all our luggage so I knew my checked bag with my ammo never made the flight. Fortunately I had my binos and a set of hunting...
I’ve just been through this and settled on the venerable 30-06 for all of the reasons above and ammo availability. After having my ammo go missing on my last trip to Africa, it was a consideration.
I’ve used them in my 30-06. Think it’s the same projectile. Crazy cheap. Loaded rounds for less than the price of the projectile.
Mine have all passed through on fallow. Closer range should be fine but I expect if you stretch it out then expansion might become an issue
