Has anyone built a custom .375 H&H rifle based on a MRC 1999 PH action?

I have never personally even seen an MRC short action. Best info I can find says it has a 3.125" magazine length. You only need to get to 3.3" to comfortably run a 375 Ruger. These numbers are squarely in intermediate action length territory. Your action should easily accommodate a 375 ruger...

Has anyone built a custom .375 H&H rifle based on a MRC 1999 PH action?

376 Steyr is effectively a dead cartridge now. Hornady has stopped offering brass for it. They are now offering only loaded ammo, with very spotty availability. A good friend of mine had a 376 Steyr built on an M48 action a number of years ago. It has become logistically impossible to feed...

What is a good thread locking compound for a threaded barrel?

Loctite 222 (purple loctite) is the right stuff. It will hold things in place and is very easy to remove.

To Crimp Or Not To Crimp, That Is The Question?

The operative question is NOT To Crimp Or Not To Crimp. The operative question is: How do you intend to use the rifle/ammunition? Half MOA groups are nice, but are not necessary for anything normally hunted with a 375 H&H. Conversely, 1.25 MOA, or even 2 MOA groups are perfectly adequate...

    AR-10 Caliber Question

You do realize 338 Federal is based on the 308 Win case? This is a non-problem.

    338-06

I have some Norma 338-06 brass, but I am not going to sell it. Grafs shows it on their website. It is worth the wait, if you need headstamped brass.

    375 h&h long range accuracy?

Cerakote makes stainless steel a "nice to have", but not a necessity. It's really the way to go for an all weather setup, even if it is a stainless action and barrel.

    7x57 info

The 160 class bullets are a better match to 7x57 case capacity than the 175's. I am inclined to regard the 175's as a special purpose bullet, when loaded in the 7x57, for use in situations where it is felt there is a need for the 7mm Mauser to punch above its weight. Even a big black bear...

.375 or .416 for Cape buffalo?

I have not changed my mind about carrying the 300 A-Frames as my bullet of first choice. The real change of thought process for me is that I will also carry solids for follow up when I am able to go in pursuit of Cape Buffalo. If I were pursuing Leopard, it would be 300 A-Frames and something...

.375 or .416 for Cape buffalo?

Yes it was. I stumbled across some of the interviews posted on youtube. The ones I found of particular interest were: Classic Africa Hunting Cartridges Africa Hunting Bullets 101 Africa Hunting Rifles 101 Cape Buffalo Hunting 101 Leopard Hunting 101 I have been previously aware of Kevin...

.375 or .416 for Cape buffalo?

This is a really interesting comment. It is contrary to my prior understanding of 375 H&H ballistics and caused me to do a fairly deep dive looking for more information. After finding said information, I have drawn the conclusion that this subject deserves to be re-visited in a separate...

If you had a Charles Daly Zastava 98 action, what would you build it into?

If you have a standard bolt face, 338-06 or 280 AI is worth a look.

If you had a Charles Daly Zastava 98 action, what would you build it into?

I have a magnum bolt face Zastava Mk X. It was originally a 300 Win Mag. It is going to become a 7mm PRC. Just needs a re-barrel. No action modifications required.

.338 Win Mag loads..help me decide!

I would be inclined to use the 230 ELD-X for the Duiker, Mountain Reedbuck, and Lechwe. For Mountain Zebra, Kudu, and Eland, I would switch to the 225 CX. If you prefer a one bullet for everything approach, the 210 Nosler Partition would be my first choice, though the 225 CX could also work.

    375 h&h long range accuracy?

I can personally attest to Craig Boddington's comments, based on load work I have done with my own 375 H&H. Loaded to 2550 or above, the 300 grain Sierra Gameking will fly with a trajectory nearly identical to the classic .308 Winchester/175 Sierra Matchking combo. If you mount a FFP LPVO...
