Anyone flying to Anchorage, Alaska anytime soon?

yeah, they should have sent it air cargo. airlines are not gonna send 400# of moose meat as checked baggage. i have shipped lots of meat from anchorage to the lower 48, air cargo is the way. they even freeze it for you.

The ideal number of cartridges to carry while hunting

when guiding brown bears, i typically carry 3 rounds in the magazine, 7 on the butt stock of my rifle, one round in my pocket to slide into the chamber quietly AND my binocular case holds 4 rounds in a side pocket. way more than i am likely to need, but i need to have at least 3 in my rifle...

keep in mind, tom homan declared to any news outlet that would listen "we are after the worst of the worst, but, if sanctuary cities protect criminals, we will catch them and other illegals will be captured as collateral." (maybe not a perfect quote, but close) so, FAFO. by the way, Merrick...

Loading three different 30-06 rounds for a trio of rifles

i get it, i just think if i was shooting ONE load, and i knew the drops, i could use either 165 or 180gr quality bullets AND shoot everything you noted, from varmints to moose. i would not change bullet weights, any varmint shot with a 3006 is going to get a dose of overkill.

Loading three different 30-06 rounds for a trio of rifles

i don't know, i would be tempted to find a 165gr or 180 bullet in a north fork, or hammer bullet and just find a load all 3 rifles like. maybe i am under thinking it but i am a keep it simple stupid kind of guy.

USA: Brown Bears, Deer & King Crab

"Alaska statutes address the issue and require a guide to shoot if they deem a wounded animal is in danger of escaping" pretty much the job and also, pretty much what i do. i wish those rifles could talk, i would like to hear the stories!

yes you do and you need to be a resident. you use a king crab trap, bait it with herring.

USA: Brown Bears, Deer & King Crab

generally, the rule of thumb for our operation is to look for a KNOWN wounded bear the next day. why? because the general rule is, tomorrow when you look for the bear, it is dead or has recovered, was not that badly hit and is gone. the vast majority of our bears are shot in the evening and...

USA: Brown Bears, Deer & King Crab

the problem is: i don't want a guy that i already know can't shoot, behind me with a loaded elephant gun. most of these hunters think they can really shoot, most of them have lots of experience hunting, but.....brown bears evidently are their kryptonite. they just get rattled or nervous or...

USA: Brown Bears, Deer & King Crab

first, a second or two is not very long. second, we don't keep a dog on the boat. much better to have a client shoot well than all the rest of the bullshit to recover a wounded bear!

i do understand the sentiment. he was not unlucky, he shot poorly and then short stroked his bolt. he did in fact have a horrible night and next day. refusing fire support has one plus, you can say you did it your self. on dangerous game, when YOU are going in the thicket, i kinda feel you...
