It is odd. It was fairly common in the old days to shoot something and if only wounded, take pictures first, then finish it off. I have actually witnessed this myself in Tanzania in 1985. The chap I shared a hunt with wounded a kongoni, and then commenced to taking pics until the PH lost patience and insisted he finish it off. I don't know if that is what took place here though.
