Traditional OKAPI pocket knives
The history of OKAPI pocket knives began in Solingen, Germany, at the beginning of the last century. Our name derives from the coincidence that a new species of buck was discovered in the then Belgian Congo in 1902, the Okapi, at the very time a new range of pocket knives was first developed at the factory in Solingen. To mark the occasion, they were christened the “OKAPI” range. In 1988, OKAPI SOUTH AFRICA (then trading as All Round Tooling) bought the trademark and tooling and continued to produce these knives in South Africa. The basic design of the 907e wooden handled ‘lockback’ has changed little over the years where the basic carbon steel, impregnated handle knife remains a firm favourite. The traditional Okapi range is supplemented by the “Big Sable” non locking knife as well as the “small flat” knife.
