What Type of locks for Gun Case and International Travel?

Whatever locks you use, put Apple Air Tags in all of your baggage, both checked and carry-on. I would have lost my 375 in February at SFO were it not for having an Air Tag inside my Tuffpak. It took 2 hours to get it, as some baggage handler hid the case somewhere. It took 3 separate...

Got my first elk hunt this year - Help me pick a cartridge

I’ve shot a couple dozen elk, with various rifles, muzzleloader and bows; so have some basis for what I’m about to say. While I think your cartridge choices are pretty good, I’m not so sure you’re picking the best bullets to go with them. Older, big bulls, if you’re fortunate to take such an...

Looking for rifle suggestions for upcoming safari

If I was in your situation, I’d take the 7 mag and match it with an accurate solid. On an animal as small as a vallie, that bullet will be plenty with virtually no hide damage at all. You could take premium expanding bullets and leave the .375 home if you want to keep things simple. For what...

Ammo cannot be packed inside luggage?

I‘ve never had such a problem. I always fly with my ammo in its own locked case which is inside my locked PelicanAir case. I’ve flown multiple airlines with no issues but then, I don’t fly Delta and haven’t flown into Jo’burg since 2009.

    Help me make my list

If it was me, I’d add an Eland and Nyala. Both are found in many areas of Limpopo. Eland quality can be excellent, upper 30” range. Nyala, while generally not as large as can be found in Zululand, can be good quality. I shot an old, heavy Nyala with Ernest Dyason’s Spear Safaris that went...

    Round Chambered…or Not?

I hunt with a loaded chamber and safety locked all the way back. However, the PH I hunt with most often, Alan Vincent, knows me very well and knows I’m safe. My safaris are almost always in dangerous game country, even if I’m not hunting DG so I carry at least a .338 and and usually .375 or...

    HUNTING Crocodile

Shot placement with a quality expanding bullet is far more important than anything with a croc. I shot this croc last September in Lake Nyerere in the Selous, using my .338 win mag and a 225 grain Trophy Bonded Bearclaw. Perfect brain shot and the croc barely twitched his tail for a couple...

When hunting species like zebra or gemsbuck does the sex of the animal matter to hunters?

The first Zebra I ever shot was a Mare In Zimbabwe. My PH asked if I minded shooting a mare and explained I’d get a better quality hide than a stallion. So, I shot a mare. I’ve shot a couple more Zebras and they’ve all been stallions. When I hunted Botswana, I shot 2 Gemsbok, a bull and a...

    RUSSIA: Kamchatka Brown Bear

I’ve always been interested in hunting the Kamchatka Peninsula, though I’ve never done it. Reading this just confirms I never will. Congratulations on 2 fine bears!

An Altitude Reality Check On Kilimanjaro: The Mountain Of Greatness

My daughter and her boyfriend climbed Kili in February of 2023, up the Rongai Route. They are in their 30’s and both are Ultra Marathon runners, so in superb shape. They took 6 days to summit, with the last climb being a very fast ascent to be the first at the summit that morning and they...
