I picked up a very pretty custom Martini recently. I believe it’s a MK II based on the thumb rest, but it’s almost devoid of markings except for a gunmakers’ number.
It’s chambered in 38-55. There is or was a Buffalo Bore load that was pretty warm compared to the black powder or smokeless...
The height of the scope/rings/bases plays a role here with such short MPBR. I have friends that use those hollow bases that allow one to use a scope and iron sights. I really dislike those for a general rifle. They’re fine for shooting over bait at a known distance. I like 25 yard and then again...
HWL, you are correct sir. I planned to just let this thread nap. It’s a Schuler sold combo gun sold under the guise of 16g/6.5x68, but someone on the German gun board found the error. It indeed is a 6.5x58R Sauer chamber. I’ve found 16 rounds with another 4 pieces of brass. Hopefully I can find...
I think my favorite part of this idea is that Chaszel offers these in so many different cartridges. You can have a double rifle in a dozen different cartridges or a combination gun depending on your particular situation at the moment. I really hope they regulate well. Such a cool idea
Rainy day share…
I procured this at an auction from a gentleman liquidating his collection. I have since purchased a fine combination gun from the same person.
I believe the original receiver was built between the world wars. Venus Waffenwerk was founded by an engineer named Oscar (Oskar)...
I appreciate the info FWB. As a nonhandloader, I’m worried about excessive brass thickness around the case mouth. Maybe it’s just my ignorance showing. I assume the case would need to be annealed before resizing. Does the brass “flow” evenly away from the mouth into the sidewalls?
Come on, how hard is it to snap a picture? No pic, no new rifle.
I borrowed my father-in-law’s extra gun for years. I eventually purchased my first deer rifle in Bass Pro points. Ruger #1 RSI in 7x57. I just priced the new ones, they’re not getting cheaper. It looks like Lipseys is the only...
I appreciate that. I don’t handload, so the brass alone would be my less preferred route. RWS and another German company still make the cartridges, but they do not export these rounds to the US. NECG doesn’t seem interested in working with them either for this ammunition.
The Browning finish.
I personally prefer the warm glow of hand rubbed wood….ahem, rifle stock. I have knocked of a high sheen finish back with fine steel wool.
Sorry to ignore the question as my preference falls toward eggshell.
They may take some time to get back to you. Good pictures with diffused light and even chalk in the markings make it easier.
Edit - beautiful drilling btw.
Great thread idea.
I had an owl land on the metal outside rail of an unshrouded elevated “blind”. It sounded like a hurricane for 1/2 a second. It hung around for a bit and was much more quiet when departing.
I stuck a rental car in the snow on Tie Hack road in Wyoming on a business trip...
Hello. I recently acquired a beautiful prewar nitro proofed combination gun in 16 over 6,5x68 aka 6,5 Schuler. I understand the cartridges are still being made by a couple manufacturers in Germany. Demand in the US is exceptionally low; perhaps just me ♂️.
Any line on a vendor or individual...
Thank you. There are two European makers of 6,5 Schuler. I contacted NECG (New England Custom Guns) to see if they’d be willing to import from RWS. I have yet to get a response.
I don’t handload currently. I’ve mulled it over, but I just don’t digest enough ammunition. I don’t want to jump...
Greetings. I have recently bought a single shot rifle and combination gun but with old world German pedigrees. I can feed the falling block in 7x57R, but there are only a couple different loads commercially available in the US. The Combination gun is more difficult to locate the rifle rounds...
