I love all guns. But the .243 is a fine little round. Have to be careful with shot placement but makes for light, easy packing guns that don't whomp the heck out of you.
I don’t feel comfortable doing a bank transfer. But would gladly pay $60/65 for someone to have a profit on a book to forward to me. It sounds like someone could do a group order as many here are wanting it.
Appreciate the replies. The Alaska arms rings just always made me question as his instructional video and every pic I’ve seen of them shows them flat/parallel and never seen them in any direction, wondered if they had to be that way.
One of my top trade items would be a nice 7x57 in rigby style. Barrel band or under barrel sling mount, iron sights, qd bases or at least drill and tapped receiver to allow scope use, but can still see the iron sights when scope is removed.
6.5x55 swede also a possible candidate as well.
Question on the rings. Can the levers be set at any angle? Or must they be 90’/parallel to gun?
I ask as I prefer qd levers on the right hand side of the gun however if both levers are parallel to the guns reciever I thought they may interfere with the action, loading the mag or ejection etc.
Myself I’d pull it and put a reputable scope on.
That said I’m betting it’s a Japanese made scope from the early 60s and most of them are even still solid today although they’re not gas purged.

Out of curiosity does the Merkel feel chunky/foreheavy to you?
I've passed on a Merkel before, and been hesitant to pull the trigger on a double I've never handled before because of that weight/balance being an unknown.
The Sabattis for as much as they're bashed feel amazing to me. The...
I think it's a good round. My dad has a .416 Taylor in a Ruger M77. Great gun.
That said, while I myself do reload I don't think it would do well without factory ammo support. The .416 Ruger will take the cheap and easy short action guys, while the Remington and Rigby are well...
Apologies for a mild thread disruption.
Were the Parker Hales that bad in function? I’ve seen that complaint on multiple threads dealing with these “Finished by Rigby” rifles.
I myself have not owned any but I know of number of people who shoot PH rifles. They seem to function fine and...
Agreed. Whitworths are a ton of gun for the money. Finish is always excellent as well.
Cool you and your brother now have a matched pair.
I just picked up a Remington 798 .375 that’s been customized. Mark X action same as them. But not nearly the finish quality of the whitworths.
Sounds very unique. I’m guessing a custom stock? Could we get a pic of the whole gun?
I’ve fixed several cracks like that with bow epoxy. Meant to laminate bows. Warm it then inject into the crack with a small needle and then clamp. Works extremely well with thin wood and even better on...
Just a note here: Everyone saying immigrants are ok with the “low wages” because of living thick and using welfare…..
Y’all do realize there are tons of LEGAL immigrants right? Locally we have a ton of legal immigrant farmhands. All get those “shitty” 16-18 an hour wages and live...
Just myself I’d leave it a .270. It’s one of my favorite rounds. I admire and have used the .25-06 but .270 is more readily available if traveling. .280AI is a good round but not a huge improvement over being able to use factory .270 ammo in a pinch if needed.
i have a Winchester M70 post...
What the heck? Must have been a buddy needed some or something as that ammo and brass was the thing helping sell that.
I’d still say it’s worth picking up but it better be $1500 or so now.
They’re difficult to find but…..a CZ550 .375 just sold on GB with one and I have one.
Leupold made a FEW. DANG few 1.5-5x20 VXIII scopes with illuminated center X. 1” tubes. Most you find are unilluminated or illuminated 30mm. Really really scarce but they’re great scopes.
Buy it without a second thought. If not there’s half a dozen AH members including me who would like to know :D
Heck get it and if you don’t fall in love throw it up for sale. You can easily make your money back plus the trouble of doing it
Wow that’s amazing. I’ve never heard of that approach as a scammer.
It seems it’s never ending in the ways they come up with to try and separate people from their money.

Up for sale is another project I never got around to. Got a good deal on two barrels and a stock for a...
Another choice would be RJ Renners "Old African" upgrade. He promotes it primarily for the model 70 but he does work on Rugers and Remingtons so he may be willing to work with you.
Hawkeye M77 would be a fine choice.
Another would be a vintage Husqvarna 640/1640.
I have a 9.3X62 Husqvarna and absolutely love it. It's not pretty, it's an absolute beater but it handles and holds so perfectly I have kept from selling it even to fund what would hopefully be a better...
I won't say your an idiot as I lust for one myself. I cannot afford $6K plus.....yet. I have been thinking/working my way into condensing my collection to get a trio African Battery of EXACTLY what I want. It's difficult, as I have a gorgeous .375 H&H Ruger Safari Magnum. Absolutely...
I think you did good. You dont see them in 9.3 at all.
i saw it pop up on Simpsons. They get some interesting stuff. alot overpriced and occasionally something dirt cheap
Good luck with the sale! With this price I am surprised it is still here. I am sorely tempted as I been wanting a .416 Rigby however I'm a picky SOB that likes barrel bands ;)
I only know of one person who has one of the mag extenders. It's on a .338 win mag. I've never grilled him about it but he's never complained about it and hes very much a "guns are tools" oriented guy so if it didn't work I'm sure he wouldn't be using it. And I think if it had any issues...
Given the choice I'd rather the gun with wear on it. I don't worry about it, and in fact enjoy carrying on it's tradition 30-50-80-100 years later from what it was made for.
Located in Montana. Not currently listed elsewhere. Will ship USPS Priority insured with tracking. All forms of payment can be discussed.
In light of all the scams going around I am willing to do a phone call if anyone would like to, likewise I have done multiple deals on here I can...
Very unlikely but a slight obstruction at the neck of the chamber? Sliver of brass or gunk that’s now allowing it to get that tiny fraction farther into the chamber?
I know you cleaned but I once had a super tiny ring of brass stuck at the very lip of the chamber that was almost impossible to...
An addendum: No real monetary boost in value, but the eagle on the left side of the frame of the 81BB is the emblem for, and the initials "CFS" are for Carabiniere Forestry Service. Italian Forestry cops. Basically their version of game warden.
Awesome. Thank you! I’ve been picking up NOS leupolds at gunshows solely for the fact they’re glossy. I been stockpiling a few for future purchases.
Be good to expand optical choices other than leupold.
I love mine. Only taken Montana mule deer but it’s a good round. Recoil is brutal with the crescent buttplate. I’d much rather shoot any of my other .35+ caliber rounds I own.
I honestly equate it as a small bore .45-70 as ballistics are near identical. Mine is a newer tang safety...
If I were you I would join the falfiles website. I spend a ton of time there. Forum dedicated to the L1A1 and FAL. If you’ll find what you need anywhere that will be the place. Bunch of good guys there
As all here have said the .375 h&h is a good round and very effective.
BUT. Don’t let them discourage you from a .416. It’s a good round and as long as you can handle the recoil it will be a much more effective cartridge. .416 recoil is impressive but controllable, and remington recoil is...
Here’s the remainder of the article. Ken waters was a wealth of information. Very meticulous loader and did a lot of research. Only bad part is it was long enough ago many bullets or powder is no longer available. But it gives a starting point at least.
