Which countries offer the most affordable Sheep/goat hunts?

Oddly, looking into an Oryx hunt in NM is what ended up pushing me to Africa. The Oryx tag, which is a draw, plus the drive and lodging, plus the uncertainty being in a new place chasing a new animal on my own, I figured it was cheaper or equivalent to go to Africa and I'd get to chase several...

Best watch in the 1000$ range?

@Wishfulthinker580 the Phoibos Wave Master came early. Very impressed with it for the price point. The quick adjust isn't as slick as Rolex's glidelock and only has 4 positions but it's certainly better than nothing. The 4 positions are about equal to one link and I fall right on the border of...

A Death Of Ethics: Is “Hunting” Destroying Itself?

I don't care that it was ran down with a snowmobile, or a 4 wheeler, or if it was in a contest or whatever. I don't agree with him playing with it like he did. He should have pinned it and killed it immediately (gun, club, hammer, knife, sharpened stick, don't care.) He vary well may have...

A Death Of Ethics: Is “Hunting” Destroying Itself?

Where did I say add on an extra side of wanton suffering? Death is a messy business, lots of ways to get there. I've shot a lot of things and I've ran a few things over with my car, not sure which one you could call more humane or effective. Probably comes down to the end user and application.

A Death Of Ethics: Is “Hunting” Destroying Itself?

Perhaps they should have taken their own advice. Predator control isn't "hunting" in the same sense as deer or rabbits or whatever. There is no season, there is no bag limit, there is no legal hours, there is no method of take requirements (night vision, thermals, spotlights, aircraft, all...

Best watch in the 1000$ range?

Forgot to mention screw bracelet too rather than pins. It really seems to poopoo the Seiko with mineral crystal, whatever the bezel material is, plus click bezel rather than friction, milled clasp that's adjustable, crown etc

Best watch in the 1000$ range?

Thanks a lot ha, I pre-ordered one of the Phoibos Wave Master GMTs. Supposed to be saving! I wish I knew about these before I bought my Seiko SSK (same movement). Seems to pack a ton of features for $299 with the rebate. It actually checks a lot of boxes I had been looking for. On the fly...

    Rolex- the stupidest, lamest company

For reference this is a Sandoz womens/boys diver (lower end 80s Swiss brand with ETA movt) I wore for 3 or 4 years when I was a welder/fabricator. The screw down crown is stripped but it still runs. Very harsh environment for just about anything.

    Rolex- the stupidest, lamest company

Yeah something to the tune of 10 to 1 or better. There's a lot of nuance to it, and if you have an eye for it they're generally easy spots. I never try to pass reps off as gens. 99% of people couldn't care less what you're wearing and if someone says something I just tell them if it's a rep...

    Rolex- the stupidest, lamest company

fakes..."replicas" kind of a misnomer as they're not perfect, but generally better quality than what you'd find on say Canal Street or in Tijuana. Usually about 90% correct.

    Rolex- the stupidest, lamest company

I've got this but wear reps or lower end stuff about 80% of the time. Depends on my mood or the situation. Can't seem to find a piece that has every thing I want in one package.

Spoke with Bill at Swift Bullets yesterday

Look here Jack, they built this country! They're the reason our economy is growing! (sarcasm, off to change my diaper now) This. I advise new people/casuals to buy what they consider a lifetime supply of whatever they shoot, at a minimum enough to get through a 2-3 year dry spell with zero...

    Extended vs regular chokes

Best way to see the shotstring in action is to shoot moving birds over water, and if you can get above them it's even better. The further you get the more pronounced it becomes. I even aim high for water swats now. I'm with you on the cheapies if your gun likes them, I mostly shoot 3" #2...

Best watch in the 1000$ range?

I've been eyeballing Longines Spirit Zulu but have to save for my trips this year with the wife and then me to Africa. Been wanting a low profile GMT with a rotating bezel. AR-10 Caliber Question

I should have prefaced that my experience with mild recoiling AR10s is with 20” barreled rifle length gas systems on an old A2 style armalite and newer SR25 style build. I have no idea how a carbine gassed rifle feels. While I agree ARs are boring (nothing more cliche than a 16”) the...

Grendel and 300 blackout will fit in your AR15 lower just need different mags for grendel. You could just buy a new upper for your existing lower. I did a post on a grendel I’ve been hunting with for 5 seasons now around a month ago you might find helpful. You’ll probably find grendel a bit...

Show your work horses and bubba rifles

Not a rifle but I've had this SBE1 since I started hunting on my own, a personal point of pride that all of the wear on it was caused by me. Originally it had a walnut stock but it got broke on a decoy sled about 15 years ago. Yes that's electrical tape holding on the old small Easyhit sight...

6.5 Grendel, an after action report

mine is rifle length gas. I would reference Bill Alexanders data (he created the cartridge). 6.5 Grendel, an after action report

Sounds very much like a gas issue, you may need to open your gas port. It can be done with a hand drill, just be very careful and use a slug in your bore (a brass cleaning rod will do)...IIRC mine is 3/32, as I had to open mine up a bit as well. Just do thorough measurements and go slow. I...

Hello everyone, now that my big game season has ended and the weather is too nice to go fowling I think I'll pour a whisky and hammer the keys about my experiences hunting with the caliber over the past 5 years. First of all, what is cool or new or novel about 6.5 Grendel you may ask? Well, it...

    Thermal scope questions

The question you're asking is a matter of resolution and sensor size (which equates to field of view), without wasting too much time and effort my best advice would be to buy a small cheap spotter, something like ATNs OTIS line (lower mag the better) and play around with it. Then you'll have a...

    Whitetail deer season 2023-2024

Well it happened today, just taking a breather before the real work sets in. What is the future of the fine firearms market

None of what I am about to say regards the high end of the fine firearms market as I think there will always be a strong market at the highest levels. Also understand that is coming from a millennial, so my life experiences may be vastly different than others, I was in middle school for 9/11...

    7.5 x 55 Swiss Smith/Ruben K31 rifle

This may be preaching to choir, as you seem way further down the reloading 7.5 Swiss rabbit hole than I ever went @Gert Odendaal , but I recall reading that the Lee dies were the older spec dimensions and although functional were not optimal for K31 loadings and if I recall correctly the Redding...
