MOZAMBIQUE: My safari With Juan Pace Of Chasseurs de Mocambique

I recognize that my report is in stark contrast to the other reports people have submitted regarding their experiences with Juan Pace. I've no reason to doubt any of them, and I offer no defense or even comment on his conduct when it didn't include me. My sole intention in posting here was to...

    Alaska combo fish and hunt

Excellent advice from "wildwilderness"! I would totally endorse that itinerary. Another point to be made about going farther south on Kodiak is the chance to hunt caribou, with an over-the-counter tag. (ADFG categorizes this population as "feral reindeer", since they are the legacy of a...

    Alaska combo fish and hunt

The first thing I'd like to mention is that a guide is not necessary for non-resident deer hunters in Alaska, so you can do a drop-off hunt on your own. "Nonresidents who hunt brown/grizzly bear, Dall sheep, or mountain goat must be personally accompanied in the field by an Alaska-licensed...

MOZAMBIQUE: My safari With Juan Pace Of Chasseurs de Mocambique

Update: Just picked up my first trophy shipment from this safari. These are the three plains game animals we got in South Africa. (The Mozambique shipment is delayed due to getting an amended CITES permit for the leopard with the correct exporter name and address.) I used Tophy Solutions and...

Why you don't trust others reloads!

I've never handloaded, but reading about it gave me the impression that it's something of an artistic endeavor by people who are well-informed, precise, and deliberate in their pursuit of quality. Then I hear horror stories of reloads produced by absolute idiots who are so careless, lazy, and/or...

    Alaska fishing question

This is the "fish box" that is stocked by the thousands across Alaska every summer. It's a waxed, heavy duty, corrugated cardboard design carried by every big box store and supermarket in the State. Line it with plastic, pack it with frozen fish, duct tape the cover on, and check it as luggage...

ARGENTINA: Argentina Adventure With MG Hunting

Thanks for the report! It was very well written and you had my full attention the whole time. I love getting the whole story. The photos were excellent too. That blackbuck has amazing horns - incredible mass! The antler "character" of your second stag is really cool and makes it a true...

How to finance a Dangerous Game safari?

Most Americans are living paycheck to paycheck with no room for extra expenses, BUT for those of us with a positive income/expense ratio who are able to save and budget even big purchases are feasible. My associates who finance $100,000 trucks think African safaris are "too expensive", which is...

ARGENTINA: Argentinean Red Stag & Blackbuck: A Miss With Catena, A Hit With Caza y Safaris Argentina

I enjoy looking through the catalog of hunts that outfitters donate to fundraisers. They introduce me to places and/ or species that I may not have considered before, and there's the allure of being able to secure a more affordable experience through the auction format. They can be a...

I submitted the winning bid on an Argentinean hunt donated by “Catena Safaris Argentina” to the SCI South Florida Chapter Sportsmen's Club Banquet & Fundraiser in the fall of 2022. The hunt was a package for 3 hunters, 5 days, and included trophy fees for a wild boar, blackbuck antelope, and...

    Buffalo/Sable Hunt Recommendations

I was in your exact situation for many years! Then I finally realized a safari in Niassa, Mozambique, for Leopard, Buffalo, and plains game last August, and can highly recommend that area! Comparing that experience to hunting South Africa is a bit like comparing hunts in Alaska (where I live)...

Mozambique Niassa Reserve: What animals to consider if Buffalo is taken early?

There was massive flooding in Niassa last year, and rivers were still flowing in early September that should have been well dried up by then. Expect wet, lush conditions in June. Under those circumstances, animals can disperse more comfortably because water is widely available, and spotting game...

Mozambique Niassa Reserve: What animals to consider if Buffalo is taken early?

I had no intention of hunting for a Niassa wildebeest when I was there, but... then I got a good look at one. Impressive! I mentioned to my PH that I'd be interested in adding one to my list if we came across a really nice specimen. The trackers in the back of the truck with me got pretty...

    .416 for plains game?

The first kill I made with my .416 Rem Mag was this Niassa wildebeest; one factory 400 grain Swift A-Frame from 100 yards, through a Ruger #1 rifle, broadside through the chest and the bullet stopped under the hide on the off side. (I was surprised it didn't pass through, so I guess there was...

MOZAMBIQUE: My safari With Juan Pace Of Chasseurs de Mocambique

Just to expand on that, the only connection I intended to make is that Juan has secured access to this part of Niassa for his clients, and it was an amazing place for my leopard and buffalo hunt (as well as the plains game we hunted). Compared to the other properties we hunted in South Africa...

I'm sorry for leaving that impression. No, I don't believe Juan Pace is a participant in the management of this concession. I understand him to be one of three outfitters who are allowed to access the concession with hunting clients, as directed by the concession managers.

From my observations of both the number and quality of animals I would say more than sustainable. The concession is massive; the hunting pressure low; and there's a robust anti-poaching program in place. I've witnessed for myself the dedication to conservation that the management of this...

    Billed after a safari question

I've been looking at Argentinian outfitters and some of their policies explicitly state that the determination of an animal being hit/ wounded is "at the discretion of the guide". I'd say, if it wasn't a hit at the time then it's not going to become retroactively wounded two months later!
