Thanks for the detailed info on Peregrine bullets. This is the kind of quality information I have been looking for. I have some .308 diameter bullets and have a strong urge to use them in my 404.
That's a fine part of the country up there. I grew up visiting family in White Sulphur Springs.
Come to think of it, I haven't gone to visit them in far too long!
I'll start by saying I'm not in the fan category of the 8.6 BLK.
However, the reports of its successes on big animals include cape buffalo can't be disregarded. The extreme twist rates 1:3 create incredible RPM that are doing some amazing things on soft tissue.
That being said, I'd much rather...
I've tried to drop a mortar on a coyote. If you don't hit within the kill radius with the first round they hit that top gear instantly and vacate the area at mach jesus.
I'm a huge fan of both of Nyala and Kudu. Those are great animals you killed! That Eland, he's a dandy!
Anyone else ever notice and think "Nyala are just Kudu that decided to grow hair instead of horns?"
I made that too! Kind of my personal take on a basic hunting knife. Influenced very heavily by the Doctari knife. That one has Texas Ebony scales with ebony bolsters and hidden pins.
Man this brought back a memory. A long time ago I came across a 300 Rook double rifle. I can't remember the maker and as a kid I couldn't afford to buy it. I sure wish I could see that gun again. I've always wanted one.
Is hunting these goats a challenge? I am asking from pure personal ignorance here, I have never hunted them or been on a place that had them. I have seen videos where they might as well have been in a petting zoo. What is the allure to hunting them, just something different?
Specifically asking...
I feel you there. We were way down south in Helmand Province. The closest thing to a treat we got was the Pebsi and pine lights from the store en route to one of our OP's. Other than that it was MRE's and local cuisine. I did turn down the carp one of the ABP killed with a rock for dinner though.
I've only really seen the bang flop when hitting the brachial plexus in critters. That is the high shoulder shot. I have also found taking off the top of the heart where all the veins and arteries connect to the heart is mush quicker than center punching the heart, but I can't do that on purpose...
It's not overkill. It's perfect. I've had them stop my very similar set up. Normally though that will zip right through them. Their vitals are low. I say that prematurely assuming you don't know that, forgive me if I am overstepping.
Well this stupid lamest thread about the stupidest lamest company didn't stop me from putting my name on the list for a Rolex Explorer this weekend. Buncha enablers...
I wish I had more time and space to shoot my 404. It sure is fun to put a rock or two in an empty shotgun shell box and chuck it out there and put holes through it. I get plenty of dry fire and bolt manipulation practice. Dry fire can only take you so far when it comes to fast follow up practice...
In my mind his wife is reading this thread to him while he recovers and he gives a smile knowing a world of people (some who know nothing of him other than this forum) are praying and pulling for him. Here in a few days or weeks he'll chime in and we'll all rejoice and gain more insight from his...
How much do yall shoot your big bores a year? I've only shot 404 Jeffery around 120 times. If they'd let me take it on deployment I could've added to that number substantially :ROFLMAO: . I don't have a safari on the books just yet but I do love shooting the thing. I feel I am pretty proficient...
It is a blast! You'll have fun. Unfortunately I'll be out of town that weekend. Bring a handkerchief to keep the drool wiped off your face while looking at all the fantastic guns.
Factory guns don't get me excited. Personally I'm head over heels for custom guns. There isn't much more I love than dragging my the mesquite after. Her name is Larue and she was shiny and spotless when I took delivery. The rifle is still in emaculate shape except if you know were to look. I do...
I once asked my dad what distance his 22 was sighted in for.
His response "It's sighted in for some distance, just shoot the damn thing" But he can cut the stems off flowers just about every shot with it so i don't mess with it. That little gun is ridiculously accurate.
It breaks my heart that you have to sell your rifles to pay for treatment. But, at the end they are only things and someone else will get some miles out of the. I said a prayer for you and your family, Hang in there!
"All carcasses were burned". I'm just going to throw in my two cents and opinion here.
1) Pics or it didn't happen.
2) I feel like whoever found the carcasses probably found them a while after they were dead. Lots of old carcasses look pretty rough after weeks of savaging and baking in the sun...
