Gun choice for Tiny 10 and small night cats

Honey Badgers are a whole different animal. I had one tote a solid .375 at 10 yards. He made it to a hole where he later became a leopard snack. I shot another one with a .500/.416 woodleigh soft at 10 yards. It worked with no damage.

    Hog Hunting Banned in Kentucky??????

Not sure about the logic in the article. Kansas has a similar policy. Hog hunters are terrible about relocating hogs. Not allowing hog hunting takes away the incentive for people to break the law by intentionally transporting hogs. This policy would not work well anywhere with a well...

Ammo cannot be packed inside luggage?

In 2021 or 22 I had the delta agent tell me I needed a Permit from SA to get the rifle on the plane. I had a copy of my application. Again I was able to get it sorted out with some polite conversation.

Ammo cannot be packed inside luggage?

That’s the first I’ve ever heard of that. In recent years I have experienced delta agents who really didn’t know what to do with guns, ammo, bows, etc. I went to Argentina in March and the argent kept trying to treat my bow like a firearm. I had to make him ask for help from one of his...

    Prayers for Mike

Here’s to a long healthy life on 4 wheels!! You’ve got quite a bit of work ahead of you, but I’m sure you can sort it out one day at a time. I’ll be praying for you, but if there is ever a way I could be of earthly assistance, please let me know.

Wanted Krieghoff Big Five .375 Flanged

The ejectors are the hard part. The ejectors didn’t show up until around 2016 or so. Lots of your used rifles have the extractors.

    Why no 375 RUM?

It’s a solution to a problem that didn’t exist. Nothing wrong with it, just no real need for it. .375 H&H fills that gap as well as anything. I suppose the same could be said about many cartridges.

Solid bullets for Buffalo? Yes or No?

I never leave the truck without a solid in elephant country. I hunt with a double and there is almost always a solid in at least one barrel. For buff I prefer the first shot with a premium expanding and then solids for follow ups. Solids will really shine on any going away shots.

Minors Traveling to SA with Firearms

No. I would think you would just put both rifles in your name. Why would you go through the hassle of putting one in his name? Also, not sure the age requirement. I took a rifle to SA by myself when I was 18, but that was 20 years ago.

    Good Gun Deals This Week

That’s why they have been discontinued. The new premier models are going to carbon stocks and some carbon barrels. For the type of hunting i tend to do with a rifle, I actually like the extra weight. If I were going on a mountain hunt I’d look at some of their new light weight options...

    July Bowhunting Safari

I’m really excited for you guys. It will be life changing for all of you. My only advice would be to stay away from the mechanical broadheads. Also, you have to really fight your natural instincts with regards to aiming. The vitals sit more forward than whitetails. A perfect behind...

    Shooting Off Hand

    Which Elephant Rifle and cartridge?

Elephant hunting is really the only area where a double offers a real advantage to those who can shoot them well. The ability to have an instant second shot is a big deal. I’m partial to my Krieghoff in .500/.416 with iron sights. I’m 3 for 3. Two side brains and 1 heart shot after a buddy...

Would a 450 grain .458 Win Mag be a perfectly acceptable standard for elephant?

450 grains @ 2300 fps would be great for elephant. I’m a fan of the .416s shooting a 400 gr bullet about that speed. As to whether that can be accomplished though reloading, I wouldn’t have any idea.

    Leopard Setup

I would look for something between .243 and .500 nitro that you shoot well with soft bullet. Seriously, it doesn’t take much to kill a leopard. Shot placement is everything. .375 is ideal. A .300 mag also works where legal. I think this is really a job for a bolt gun. Any good scope...

Hunt over water; Shoot from truck

Shooting from the truck is just that, shooting. It’s not nearly as rewarding as a proper stalk. Getting out of the truck and walking a few yards to shoot isn’t much better. Riding around shooting things from the truck doesn’t make for an enjoyable safari. I did do a drive by on a...

    Rifle for daughter

Limiting to CRF really hurts your options. There are plenty of very reliable push feed rifles. I'm a big fan of the stuff Bergara has been putting out. It's discontinued, but the Premier Highlander, is an exceptional value in my opinion. You may still be able to find one in stock.

Cape buffalo hunt coming..what bullets to choose..?

I still like the old soft solid combo. On my last hunt we were hunting dagga boys in really think stuff. My ph had me load all solids. If you are somewhere with elephants you need to have some solids with you. Also, solids are good if you want to shoot something smaller. I never leave...
