Buddy and I both shot our first elk last year, he used a 3006 with 180gr powershoks and i used 300gr powershoks in my 375H&H. They sure can soak up the lead.
Hey all, just got back from another trip and figured id give a quick report.
I had spoken with this outfitter in the past about a few of the different hunts they offer but had never hunted with them, i had a mule deer hunt booked in southern Alberta for this coming November with the outfitter I...
Welcome aboard, also from Ontario but southwetsern. Friends family owns about 400ac surrounded by crown land near South River that i occasionally go up do deer hunting
Ive done 3 outfitted hunts and have a 4th booked, hunt just about everything around home but my favourite hunt is still our firearms deer season here. 1 week of doing drives with friends and family
My plans also changed, got an email over the weekend from an outfitter id talked to before about various hunts about a cancellation/discounted muskox hunt this april. Needless to say ive ended up cancelling my mule deer hunt in november to take advantage of this once in a lifetime opportunity
My dads Remington 788 in 243 that I inherited. Tasco wide angle 6x scope, sighted in at 100yd with 100gr corelokts, not worried about dragging it through the bush!
Ive got the exact same rifle as yours ( check my username) it was my dads favourite large rifle. Has shot 2 moose, 1 caribou, 1 black bear, 1 whitetail, 1 elk and 1 raccoon just for good measure! With 300gr federal powershoks it groups plenty accurate for me. Never had an issue with operation...

Thanks for the replies so far. Weve got the hard gun cases covered. Will have a look around at cabelas for packs to take our gear in with. The boots i wear now for work are timberland pros and they are super comfortable but im looking for something with a bit more ankle support
Hey all, havent posted in a while but looking for some advice.
A friend and i recently sent deposits on an elk hunt for 2023 and were looking for reccomendations on boots, packs etc for the hunt. It is a fully guided hunt based out of wall tents, late september in Alberta. We will be flying out...
I found the meat from mine was a blend of venison and goat of course. The meat has a very rich flavour to it, unlike venison chops where you could eat a whole stack of them the pronghorn i find is better in moderation
It is big country for sure! The other hunter shot his buck in one of the 2 pastures that everyone hunts near Cavendish and i shot mine further south yet
This will probably be the last post until i get the mount back from the taxidermist. Yesterday morning everyone gets to sleep in, we have a good breakfast and pack our gear up figuring since we are done early we may as well head out. We get Monty and I's meat and capes out of the freezer and...
Today was a little slower pace, Eric and I left camp around 645 to check out some new country and hopefully find a buck for Monty. We find 2 small bucks and a few deer and coyotes fairly quickly. We drop down into a huge valley and as we come out the other side theres a bend in the road with a...
Another eventful day today, we get up early and have a quick breakfast and leave camp by 545. Part way there we have a 140" whitetail buck cross the road in front of us and by god we didnt miss him by much! We get to the pasture we had seen the large herd the night before right at first light...
Today was quite eventful, had a quick breakfast and left camp around 640. Eric wanted to go to an area that he has permission and see whats around. See a handful of pronghorn, whitetails, mule deer and 3 bull elk on the way there. We spot a group of about 6 pronghorn with what looks to be a...
