I have to agree with @Redleg. I have seen many emotional posts regarding Trump, almost exclusively by those who support Trump, taking exception to folks expressing concerns about him. A rational discussion is largely impossible as anything but utter devotion seems to generate an illogical...

What's up with todays' gun shops?

In an earlier thread I shared pics of a Thomas Bland that I bought at Carl Russell’s shop in the UK. Learning from that experience, I helped a friend set up import for British shotguns for a new shop he has set up. The first shipment is on its way now, inclusive of at least one best quality...

    Practicing long crossers

I was shooting the high tower at Holland & Holland a number of years ago. The top deck is 130 feet high and it throws over a valley. Midis off the top deck look like aspirin. You can absolutely crush that target with an oz of 8’s and IC.

The problem that I see with them is that it is hard to make them objective. Should a raving lunatic have any sort of weapon? Of course not. All right let’s define the level of mental illness or malicious intent needed to trigger a red flag. At exactly that point it becomes subjective, not objective.

Agreed, but I still need lots of eye relief with them. Below are the two No 1’s I referenced. The .275 Rigby has the Swarovski Z6 1-6x24 EE in Warne QD rings. Note how far back it can be mounted with the straight tube. The second is a .22 hornet topped by a Zeiss conquest 3-9x40 with a rear...

    Thoughts about Leupold VX-3HD

I actually take multiple scopes out back and glass deer well past legal shooting light (the closest shooting house to my front door is 50 yards). I love Leupold scopes but they don’t compare to the Z6 and Z8 Swarovski’s in low light which is when 90+% of our deer are shot. The absolute best...

    Thoughts about Leupold VX-3HD

The Leupold zero stop is an excellent system. Personally I don’t see any utility in it inside 400 yards but I do use it on two long range rifles. As far as glass quality, my Leupold MK 5 HD 3.6-18x44 is an awesome scope, but at last light my Swarovski Z6 1.7-10x42 is noticeably better.

    458 WM to 458 Lott Re-Chambering

My M70 was stamped Lott on the barrel. It is no issue taking .458 Lott ammo into Africa as long as the supplemental stamp is applied. I have done so at least half a dozen times with that rifle.

    458 WM to 458 Lott Re-Chambering

I converted my M70. I’m not sure it was worth it. I am getting 2,300 fps with Federal’s 500 gr TBBC load and it hits buffalo like the hammer of Thor. But I’m betting you get 2,150+ with long loaded .458 WM. Would you really see a difference?

Those are waist high breathable waders in that pic. Bear is five miles up a creek from the coast. I find them easier to hike in than hip waders.

    CZ 550 .375 H&H AMR Upgrade #2 formerly owned by a member

Looks like waist high breathable waders. I used them extensively when I ran a boat on the coast. The other common footgear are Alaska tennis shoes (ankle fit hip waders). It’s a bugger trying to clean bear grease out of breathable waders.

    Leupold fxii 2.5 power fail

Something is wrong other than the scope. There should be zero movement between the rings making a separation failure impossible. The fact that it happened points to another problem: - one ring was tight and the other was not. - one of the bases was loose. - some other cause of...

Got my first elk hunt this year - Help me pick a cartridge

I would encourage a heavy for caliber bullet in whichever caliber you land on. Personally I would use an A-Frame. You may not get the optimal shot. You want to be able to bust big bones and anchor your bull. A wounded elk will go places you just don’t want to go! Have a great time planning your...

Got my first elk hunt this year - Help me pick a cartridge

OK, I’m going to suggest a different direction. You’re using an R8, what better pairing for a German rifle for elk/red stag than an 8x68? It is about as perfect an elk cartridge as you could find and a perfect pairing for a German rifle.

    Practicing long crossers

There are also different shooting styles being taught. Do a little research, determine what you believe to be the correct approach, and ensure any instructor you hire teaches that approach. I have seen some excellent coaches and some abysmal coaches. Certification is no guarantee of good coaching.
