Thanks @Hank2211 for another great report. I appreciate all of the details from the trip as I have Ethiopia on my list of places to return. Hopefully things will remain stable there, but we never really know these days!
Cheers,
JES
The detail work on the rocky outcrop for the Leopard and the dry riverbed below the Lion is wrapping up. This detail work is time consuming but truly amazing and worth the wait.
I have an HS Precision takedown in 300 RUM & 375 RUM and used in on my Cameroon Savannah Safari with great success. I did not order it from HS but purchased second hand and it had been shot very little. The 300 RUM has been my go to cartridge for years and was very happy with the 375 RUM...
My condolences to you and your family Toby. From what you have written, he was a great father, something we can all strive to be,
May he Rest in Peace,
Beautiful Menelik's CONGRATS!
As for the Giant Forest Hog, I totally understand your situation as I have been there myself. Controlling emotions in times like that has always been my biggest battle, especially when hunting a difficult animal. But, if there wasn't any emotion I probably...
The African species are going on the wall, the gaps in the spacing are for additional species that are being mounted. The habitat scenes are beginning with the long wall to be Savannah to Forest.
The Dangerous Seven are the anchor pieces on this wall with sub-species of African Buffalo as...
Thanks @samson7x. The fully guided turkey hunt is $2500 per person, two full days with luxury accommodations, all meals, beer, wine and spirits. Check out our website www.reserveranch.com
I participated in the awards program early on (back in the 1990's) but haven't updated any of them in over 30 years. The benefit I have found with the programs is they have been a catalyst for my pursuit of different species around the globe.
As for the record book, I have a handful of...
The taxidermy team is steadily working on the mountain habitat. This includes painting different sections of the rock and applying different soils as well as artificial vegetation to create different habitats on the mountain.
Fireplace finished sans the mantle, I am having one made from a massive old Mesquite 8’ long.
I’ve been pleased with the mason, he understood the concept I wanted for the fireplace and nailed it.
For those of us that are senior in age and own our home, what about considering a reverse mortgage?
This a way to utilize an untapped asset for personal enjoyment. When you pass the estate will satisfy the loan. Your heirs will end up with less, but I would hope they would rather have seen...
Welcome Alex, I hunted Australia a couple of times in the 90's and certainly want to go back. I'm looking forward to more details and learning about your outfit.

That would be great @Mort Hill, I look forward to enjoying a cigar with you in the new trophy room and sharing some stories as it will be a smoke welcome environment!
The habitat work on the mountain is slow and tedious at this point. The taxidermist team said they’ll be working on it the next four weeks.
The mason’s started the fireplace earlier this week. I left the ranch to be with my family for Easter and will head back down there next week.
Here’s a...
I got back to the ranch last night and checked in on the project today.
The rock panel is completed for the mountain, now it’s down to the tedius work filling cracks and painting the rock for the variety of habitats.
Thanks for the insight @MarkB the outfitter Jim Peterson said all his hunters had opportunities on mature bulls, two passed as they were looking for book moose.
I most definitely will listen to my guide as I’m not hunting for the book but hunting for my moose!
Likewise, good luck on your...
Thank you for the kind words @MarkB. I also appreciate your confirmation that I chose a good area as the Canadian Moose has been my nemesis while pursuing the NA 29. This will be my 4th attempt and I truly hope to complete the quest this year.
Rest assured I will post a hunt report on the...
I am right there with you @LWPhunt my wife tolerated mounts scattered all over the place the past 36 years so I am sure she will be happy once this is completed as well. Of course, the building will house her trophies as well!
I lack six spiral horned antelope to have collected all sub-species;
East African Greater Kudu
Abyssinian Greater Kudu
Menelik Bushbuck
Abyssinian Bushbuck
Sesse Island Sitatunga
Forest Sitatunga
Then, if my knee condition improves, I'd like to take few more mountain hunts in places such as...
@Throwback, my goal is to have the space functional by August, in time for our Fall/Winter Season. We would love to have you and your son come to the ranch.
As for true completion, meaning all taxidermy up and displayed that could be another 9-12 months. I ran out of space many years ago and...
Well, I haven't really given that any thought. Probably just "the bar at Reserve Ranch".
But, since you mentioned it maybe there is an AH contest in the making here!
+1 on the Mercedes G wagon. First hunted out of one in Spain back in the 90's. It took me nearly 20 years but I bought one to use for showing ranches in my real estate business. Its 4" wider than a Polaris Ranger so goes down narrow trails in comfort. Also, passed 200K miles a while back and...
The building is 140x50 with 16 foot wall plate height and the peak of the ceiling at 24 feet. The structure itself a pretty simple design, just two big rooms, two bathrooms and a butlers pantry.
As shown in the photo's, I utilized wood frame construction to be consistent with the four car...
If you look carefully in the corner against the wall, they build a series of steps to get up the mountain but they are well camouflaged. Also, the foam rock panels are very strong and will support a considerable amount of weight.
Thanks Bruce, I hope you've cleared out some space for a lifesize mount of that MONSTER Forest Sitatunga! It would be a shame to only display a photo of that grand old bull.
