    460 S&W hunting bullet

Are you referring to the Hornady FTX Mag or the ordinary FTX ? I too want a heavier bullet 300 - 370 gr. range, I do cast my own, but would prefer to get a flat nose solid or very strong bonded bullet in the same weight range. I am investigating Peregrine, Gs custom and Claw bullet from South...

    460 S&W hunting bullet

I just looked up GS custom and they are all produced in the US, I cannot find anything on them in south Africa. The US based GS bullet manufacturer will only ship within the US. Peregrine has a 260 gr "hogmaster" expanding hollowpoint monolithic bullet, that could be interesting. Claw bullets...

    460 S&W hunting bullet

Matt. I do cast my own bullets for the .454 Casull and i have had no disappointments with them on game, the largest being a Giraffe with a 370 gr LBT LFN. I have an alloy that is around 25 BHN and which is tough but not brittle. I will not expand , but may loose a bit of weight when hitting...

    460 S&W hunting bullet

Thank you very much for the information on the bullets, i appreciate it. I will give Graf and Sons a call and hear if they will export bullets to South Africa or Europe. I doubt it, as i have recently tried to get some shotshell wads from Ballistic Products and they informed me that NO...

    460 S&W hunting bullet

Why not the Hornady XTP mag. Are they too soft ? Is Graf and sons not a US supplier ? The problem is getting the right bullets in South Africa. US companies will not export any components, for the time being, as i understand it. Reloading components are very difficult to find in RSA. I managed...

SOUTH AFRICA: Has Anyone Hunted With Pete Safaris?

Over the years i have hunted with several PHs some good some not so good, but i have never met any better PHs than Lammie and Peter. They take their time to find the trophy you want and never push you to shoot, when you are not comfortable with it. On top of that, they now have their own...

Winchester hunt movie / David Ommaney from the 60s

I actually have that movie on a disc, given to me by his son David Hugh Ommanney, who now lives in Denmark and i am also the proud owner of his fathers pre 64 Superior grade win mod. 70 in 300 win.mag. from around 1959. I reckon it must have been rechambered or rebarrelled from maybe 30.06 to...

    Fly Safair now carrying firearms

My agent has now confirmed that Safair has finally answered that they will not carry any kind of handguns, period. That information came from a high level at Safair. From another professional agent in the Firearms pre-approved permit and meet and greet business, i was told that Safair is...

    Fly Safair now carrying firearms

I have an agent that do pre-approved permits etc look into it, they have tried to contact Safair, but they seem very hard to get in contact with. I did some research last night and it looks like Airlink is also offering transportation of firearms and their policy is that they WILL carry hunting...

    Fly Safair now carrying firearms

As far as i know there are NO alternative carriers since SAA went out of business. I am in contact with one of "the specialist firearms travel agents" but so far they have not yet been able to get a clear answer from Safair. I had hoped that some of the members in here had experience with...

    Fly Safair now carrying firearms

I have now contacted Safair, as i am planning a hunting trip with a .454 Freedom Arms revolver. I asked directly, if they could transport a hunting revolver from Johannesburg to Port Elizabeth, but all i got back from them was the standard reply: "Kindly note we only transport firearms for...

    Fly Safair now carrying firearms

Have you also noticed this: "The firearms and ammunition must be for sports purposes (rifles/shotguns) only; no Handguns or Modern Sporting Rifles (MSR) will be transported." No handguns !! I have been hunting with handguns several times in the Eastern cape, flying from Johannesburg to Port...

Laws & Regulations for Hunters Traveling with Firearms and Ammunition or Bows and Arrows

Have any of you experienced Africa hunters heard about a new "rule" imposed by SAPS, that prohibits 2 hunters to share a gun case ? I have been to the Eastern cape several times with friends and family and on every occasion some of us have shared gun cases. I have a large and heavy Pelican gun...

Minimum caliber requirement in Eastern cape

My personal opinion is not really that important and i actually tried to avoid answers with personal opinions. The thread was: Minimum caliber requirement (legally) in Eastern Cape ? I also have a 6,5 in the safe and i regard it capable of taking game the size of Kudu, not perfect, but capable...

Minimum caliber requirement in Eastern cape

No matter who has the copyright to the text in the 2 previous answers, i must say that i do not find it correct what is written about South Africa: I have attached the official "Norms and standards for hunting methods for hunting in South Africa " and it clearly states that: Minimum "9,9 gram...

Minimum caliber requirement in Eastern cape

Areaoneral, you are right about headstamps etc. but in my world the diameter for a certain caliber must be the correct and accurately measured diameter given in either mm or inch. Should it be measured on the top of the lands or in the bottom of the grooves ?? There are rifles that are stamped...

Minimum caliber requirement in Eastern cape

Thanks for your interest in my thread, there are quite a few things to consider. Rhinoster answered with something that looks right out the book. and it states that "No person shall use a fire-arm having a barrel of a calibre of six comma five millimetres or less to hunt any Buffalo, Eland...

Minimum caliber requirement in Eastern cape

This question has popped up quite a few times, but after having studied all the threads i could find, i have not yet gotten a clear answer. Too often it ended up with personal opinions and rumors. I do know the rules regarding minimum calibers for RSA and until recently i thought this was valid...
