My rule with my own 'black rifles' is suppressor and brass catcher on when at a public range.. I rarely bring them to a distance range though, only to confirm zero.
Hot brass clocking me in the head is annoying but muzzle braked rifles are right up there too
It certainly depends.. I mean 15% on a $400 impala is way less than getting it euro'd and shipped to DFW for me. For more expensive animals its definitely worth it to ship but I am a poor chump and I wont be hunting any big 5 anytime soon
Thats a shame.. I received my first crate a month or so ago. Not too bad on the price for everything but I wont be doing anymore taxidermy except for special circumstances. More money for hunting or other travel and my house is already filled up with mounts as is
Yea.. I wasnt too thrilled about that one. The USDA charges are higher than I was anticipating. This is my first time through the process and I didn't look at their suggested charge sheet until after it was all done.
Picked up my crate yesterday and still working on getting everything situated. I wanted to share my total costs for everything to give snapshot of what the expense is these days. Splitting Image did a fantastic job on the taxidermy and crating. I went with nearly all euro mounts as my house is...

Also what specific game animals you are after and the terrain they inhabit might...
Cabelas in Allen, TX has Remington 375 HH 270gr SP for $89.99 a box. They also had two boxes of Hornady DGS in the same caliber but there was no price listed
Howdy AH,
Bit of a newb question for yall. I had my first safari back in May and this morning I woke up to an email from Splitting Image that my taxidermy was nearing completion and to make the final payment.
I could have sworn I had a plan for after this step back in May but life has happened...
Interesting... I still think their barrels should come from the factory threaded, especially if they want to cater to the younger (30s-40s with disposable income) US market. I breeze right over rifles that aren't threaded with the only caveat being older classic rifles.
The cost isnt exactly...
